    god almighty:nocomment:!!!.

The character of Khan Noonian Singh was a Sikh (mainly from India, known as a people for being excellent businessmen and superb soldiers).

    Ricardo Montalban was from Mexico.

Incidentally, Montalban enjoyed playing Khan in Star Trek II immensely and told many people that it was the highlight of his acting career (which was quite extensive).

According to this photo posted over on Ain't It Cool News, helmeted Klingons will definitely be a part of the new movie.

Maybe Cumberbatch will be a good ol' surgically-altered-to-look-human Klingon?

    Here's a thought:

IF YOU WANT TO REBOOT THE FUCKING FRANCHISE, TRY SOME NEW CHARACTERS AND NEW STORIES, NOT A REHASH OF OLD ONES!

Then, one could argue it's not Star Trek.

Yeah, the spinoffs did other characters, but they were all connected to the mainline TOS continuity to some extent.

Change every single thing, AND not have recognizable characters?

All you've got is a brand name.

 I mostly agree, with the caveat being that they said the reason for the reboot was to "have a clean slate" and to make it "not your daddy's Star Trek", which implied something actually new and inventive. Not that I was actually expecting them to live up to their own hype or anything. Personally I'd be cool with a reboot if it was actually done well and wasn't just about running everything through an obnoxious pop culture filter filled with shakey-cam and lens flares for the Transformers crowd. But whatever.

I doubt they'd go so far as to resurrect the "Troubles with Tribble" character, especially as he wasn't very interesting to begin with.

Just speculating based on what we know: (1) Cumberbatch is, apparently, the antagonist; (2) at one point he wears a Starfleet(?) uniform; and (3) he appears semi-impervious to the Vulcan neck pinch. All of which points at clandestine, hostile alien.

Either that or deranged Starfleet officer.

Mudd may not have been a very important character, but he is one of the "pop culture" things the "mainstream" remembers thanks to his affiliation with the tribbles. I've seen the fanboys calling for him to show up almost as much as they have for Khan.

Oh, oops. Well, how much you bet that if he's in the new movie he'd have something to do with tribbles? :ramen:

We know that the character cannot be Harry Mudd or Cyrano Jones for one obvious reason:

Jack Black is not in this film.
