Is this supposed to be another parody, like Galaxy Quest?

No, it's just a fan made concept.

From the Short Trek with them stuck together in the elevator I wouldn't be surprised if they make a softness between the two of them in private moments an ongoing thing to counteract being sterner in other situations.

I saw a suggestion for this guy for Kirk.

I have mixed feelings about casually going to Jim Kirk before the last season but if you do it early, this is the target look. You need an early 60's Shatner look

Mount, Peck, and Romijn look like their TOS predecessors only in very general terms. If they do have young Jim Kirk on the show, he needn't resemble Shatner other than in similarly general ways.

And the actor certainly shouldn't do a William Shatner Impression. I think Chris Pine is the model to follow: do an interpretation that evokes--but doesn't imitate--the classic character.

I thought Vic Mingnogna captured Shatner's mannerisms and essence quite well. I just hope that they don't make him a horn dog and hopefully they'll be more faithful to TOS. Kirk was supposed to be a bookworm in his youth. Lastly, I hope we get to see a better version of Kirk's Kobayoshi Maru test.

He definitely imitated Shatner, But the imitation is also a constant reminder that he isn't Shatner.

I think that's definitely NOT the way to go.

yeah.. there's no reason for him at this point in history. He's either still on the Farragut (2257) or an AP at the academy (2258-60)

How long before Kurtzman says no Kirk, then reverses it?

    it'll depend on fan demands.

we've got 8 years till melty Pike, about 6 of him in command of the Enterprise.

I'll say end of S3 and he shows up as third officer in the finale tease

    well, yeah... that's a given
how we get to that point depends largely on the design life of the series itself. I mean, we've got 7 years until Kirk takes command... 6, if you figure we'd be starting in 2259.
so, end of S3, it'd be 2262/63. Last shot of the season is him reporting for duty after his teaching/thesis time at SFA as an LtC. Probably be a guest star role for S4, depending on how the actor takes with the audience. If he sucks, they can transfer him...
Although, thinking a few more minutes about it, maybe you wouldn't want him in there until the year before he's supposed to get the centre seat? i.e.: S5 finale? Just enough time to build a rapport with Pike and crew that he'd be worthy of recommendation?

It'll be important for him to start off in a red shirt, no matter what else.

TBH, I'd like to see 5 seasons (at minimum, gladly take more) of SNW and then have them do a big "event" - a long made-to-stream movie or a sort of six hour miniseries) that accomplishes the "Pike promoted, Kirk given command transition in the context of some larger story. But give that transition a sort of momentous feel. But I'm cool to the idea of seeing Kirk before this happens, make it that big tantalizing prize that everyone is hoping for but never comes until this series has had it's due run.

Remember the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" fan written short story submissions contest Pocket Books's Star Trek Department had going until perhaps 10 years ago or so? I participated in the SNW Contests twice but lost both times.
Back to topic, I hope they can pull this Pike Star Trek show off without violating Star Trek canonuity (CANON and continUITY).

I really wish they would SCRAP completely the Section 31 Series. Section 31 is SOOOOO ANNOYING :( I hate Section 31 not because they violate Gene's Vision or some crap like that but because they are LOATHSOME & DICKY. Sloan was so annoyingly dicky. Wearing the all black leather outfit, he thought he was SOOOO COOL! The other members of S31 that we saw in DS9 were also dicky. If there's ANYTHING to be utterly FORGOTTEN in ALL of Trek it's Section 31. Irritating and DICKY is ALL Section 31 is.

Lotta tidbits from the SNW panel at the Star Trek Day online convention thingy.

Number One is going to have her backstory fleshed out, and it's supposed to be "mind-blowing".

Rebecca Romjin and Akiva Goldsman are both lobbying for a Lower Decks crossover (cuz Romjin is married to Jerry O'Connell who plays Ransom).

Everything they describe about this makes it look like the TOS prequel I wanted ENT to be 19 goddamned years go.

I wonder if they will have Yeoman Colt, or Jose Tyler, or any of the other characters from "The Cage" / "The Menagerie".
