Why treat his speculation as if it's a true report.

I'd be willing to say categorically that the next movie will NOT retell ANY previously filmed story. There's some possibility that they will re-cycle a basic idea (as TMP revamped "The Changeling" but that's the most that would happen.

Reboot or not... V'Ger is still on his way and due to arrive at Earth in 2273. :bergman:

Impossible to avoid, since Star Trek has done everything.

Well, by that time Kirk will just have that much more experience as a captain, seeing as though he'll have been at it since he was a kay-det. :?:

Except now the three Klingon ships that intercept V'Ger will fire Borg-technology nano-probe torpedoes into it...and V'Ger will be assimilated into the Empire.

    :D

Was the Narada supposed to have Borg-tech on it?

Actually, here's what I'd like to NEVER see in nuTrek: THE BORG!

Yeah it was. It was at one point a simple mining ship @ maybe a few hundred meters length. Then it got into some Robulan Captured borg tech and grew and grew and grew into a 7 mile length.

OK. A tidbit I'll throw in: There was a bit too much "low" humor. There was too much action, the plot was too weak, and Scotty was mostly for comic relief, but I just realized the whole Kirk, allergic reaction bit was waaaay over the top.

It lays out a great groundwork for Kirk to be McCoy's worst patient though. Would you be all comfortable-like with Dr. Leonard "Bones" (Feelgood) McCoy after all those shots?

It appeals to the masses. When I saw the movie a second time the audience mostly laughed at the low brow humour and not the more intelligent remarks (what little of them there were). Trek has a specific fan base of mostly intelligent and sensible viewers. Therefore they like it for the cerebral qualities, or the stories, the characters or the technical aspects. Few watch it just for ship battles and silly jokes, but the simple fact is if the movie is to cater for everyone, and that includes fans of Vin Diesal films and the crappy jennifer annitston/Matthew McWhatshisface comedy genre, then you are going to need some dumbed down humour.

If they want to cater for everyone why do they have to make an ST film?
Why not just make yet another generic space film crap aimed at teenagers and idiots full of stupid jokes, big explosions and sex references?

Because then the Trekkies who have contributed to their $2.5 billion income over 40 years won't go and see "generic space film crap" if it doesn't have the Star Trek label stuck on it.

You see, mass audience = more money. However, mass audience + Trekkies = a fuckload more money. It's quite simple really.

I've been a fan of Star Trek ever since I first saw the Wrath of Khan in theaters. I loved TNG and DS9 as well. I enjoyed this movie, but I still wish they hadn't gone the alternate reality route. I also think this movie could have been more cerebral. The Dark Knight was more cerebral than this movie was.THe Dark Knight had plenty of points that were a reflection on current society and left you thinking after it was over. There's something wrong in the world when Batman is more intelligent than Star Trek.

Yep. At the end of ST III, where Sarek is thanking Kirk for saving Spock and Kirks says he was just doing his job. Sarek replies "But at what price? Your ship! Your son!" and Kirk says "If I hadn't gone, the price would've been my soul."

Yeah, maybe the franchise needed a hard reset from the preachy B&B years, but some of the stuff--Kirk with the allergic reaction, Scotty with the transporter water slide--would've been at home with whacky music and Bob Saget doing funny voices.
