It fits, as He/She was getting onto the Texan for wanting secession, so what does she say to the Hawaiians?

Gul proves what a partisan idiot he is almost daily.

EDIT: Hell, he even started making excuses for the democrat Hawaiians in his reply.

Liberalism, ground zero of the double standard.

Maybe. But I took it as a comment regarding his car.

@dumbass @Archangel: I haven't stated my views on Hawaiian independence, so your response is rather meaningless. Some of these guys can't read worth a damn.

I believe he was disputing the distinction between a state that voluntarily entered the union and now wishes to separate vs a state that was sold to the union by their king and now wishes to separate.

Don't even get me started on the entirely illegal slave trade-like deal in which we acquired Alaska.

What was illegal about it? Russia owned it, they wanted to sell it, we bought it.

Yea, Russia owned it. Just like the US owned .... well, the U.S. Both countries stole the land from the aboriginal people.

Well, why are singling out Alaska as particularely shitty, when it's the same as the rest of the US. We stole it from the natives.

The difference is the people of Texas voted to enter the union. The people of Alaska did not. Nor did the people of Hawaii.

Yep. America stole the land from the natives hundreds of years ago and we should forever feel guilty about it.

The people of Texas by then were of European descent....who stole Texas from the natives. So I'm still not seeing the difference.

Yes they did. Only 8,000 Hawaiians voted against statehood, and a lot of those that did were just upset that the Japanese might gain too much influence and push the natives aside. The vote passed with 93% support. The people who'd been blocking Hawaii's statehood (and Alaska's) were, of course, Southern Democrats, especially Lyndon Johnson. They feared that more Republican Senators would break their filibusters of civil rights legislation.

I don't know what kind of answer you're looking for. There's an obvious difference between Texas voting for succession and Hawaii voting for succession.

It's secession. Succession regards a sequence -- 2 succeeds 1, Obama succeeded Bush, etc.

You realize that every piece of land on Earth has been stolen by one group or another?

If it makes you and the rest of the bleeding hearts feel any better, if America sticks around long enough and don't kill the world with pollution, eventually someone will steal this land from us, too! :techman:

If we gave Alaska back to the natives, wouldn't that mean that Bristol Palin would inherit it?

I wasn't calling you out, so much as, well, everybody. It's kind of a pet peeve since 95% of people interchange the two words.

Of course, "American car" is pretty hard to define, since plenty of Toyotas and Hondas are made here and plenty of Fords are made in Mexico, but the kind of people who get all jingoistic about it generally don't look past the badge ...
