I don’t get all the folks who think that Putin can be trusted to negotiate in good faith.

It is pretty disappointing that just as soon as it looks like the tide has started to pull back some are trying to solidify Russia’s gains.

It will be interesting. They have a decent domestic arms industry (Soviet derived) but is also being flooded with Western arms.

When the war is over will they use the tech taken from Russia and upgrade their domestic production or switch to western/NATO arms? Or maybe both, with the the Soviet derived stuff being produced for export but transitioning to Western for their own military.

Depending on how the sanctions go, Russia might not be in the arms trade anytime soon. But there are a lot of militaries that use their equipment. And the Ukrainians have now proven their equipment is up to snuff while Russia has cast serious doubt about theirs. Be hilarious if Ukraine used Russian money (reparations from seized reserves) to rebuild/modernize their industrial base, used newly gained Russian tech where appropriate and just ate their lunch.

I expect the debacle in Ukraine--and the readily apparent vulnerability of Russian hardware to Western weapons--will cause the Russian arms industry to see a shocking decline in foreign sales.
