I’m having a hard time seeing what the problem might be.

Well, first of all, the president is a woman. That’s clearly a problem. After that, the “hero” isn’t really the hero, his dad is. And last but not least, the exchange about weapons as birthday gifts is clearly about gun control.

Looks like a good movie.

A few things:
1. The school needs to have a "procedure" in place that would prevent disclosure in such an instance.
2. The reasonably prudent standard is at least somewhat squishy. If Kid says "Daddy is molesting me," is it reasonable to think that telling Daddy of this allegation will result in "abuse, abandonment or neglect"? I would think that is a case-by-case basis, and it's something reasonable people might disagree about. How about telling just Mommy? What if the allegation is "my priest is molesting me?"
3 The law gives a parent the right to sue the school for failure to comply with a potential award of not just damages but also costs. Under those circumstances, it seems like many schools might opt for the "safe" route and disclose information rather than keeping it private.

Taking this out of the context of child abuse and returning it to the context of sexual orientation, it seems to me that this would also require schools to out queer students to parents unless they think that it would subject the student to "abuse, abandonment and neglect." Which does not seem to be a healthy result.

There needs to be a penalty for abusing the procedure is all. I do not mind people reporting real problems, but when there is clearly some abusive reporting going on you give the person a warning and then you hammer them with a 200 dollar fine and they cover any legal fees every time they maliciously report bullshit. That will stop this republican threat bullshit real fast.

U.S. Same-Sex Marriage Support Holds at 71% High

You want proof our democracy is fucked up? There it is. 71% of the US population supports gay marriage, and Republicans are ignoring the will of the American people and trying to do away with that. We all know who should be screaming about this. You know, the folks who claim that we're verging on tyranny any second now, and we're all going to be locked up in FEMA camps so that our organs can he harvested and sold to space aliens. They're not, however.

They're also not making a case about this being akin to slavery, where large numbers of the voting population in the US appeared to have been okay with slavery. (I say "appeared" because opinion polls weren't really a thing way back when, so we can't say for certain what the attitudes of the voting public were.) And, yes, there's a reason why I'm emphasizing the voting population. Remember, at the time, only a small section of the American population could vote, and those were largely the people whose views dominated American politics. Even if, for example, 71% of registered voters in, say, 1840, supportedly slavery, that would not be indicative of the opinions of the American population as a whole. I think we can all agree that the number of enslaved people who said that they were happy being enslaved, would be a fairly small number. In some states, if you added the number of enslaved adults to the number of voting residents who disliked slavery, you might have gotten a majority of people in that state saying they were opposed to slavery.

Without good, objective evidence that there's nothing wrong with slavery (you won't be able to find any), you have to conclude that if a majority of the total US population of the time was in favor of slavery, then the government would have been correct in defying the will of the people. Unfortunately, we can't say for certain, or even with the blundering inaccuracy of many polls today, how the majority of Americans felt about slavery because that wasn't a thing people asked individuals about in anything that could be considered a scientific manner. And while I think that we can all agree that the enslaved didn't want to be enslaved, their thoughts on the matter didn't register with large amounts of the American public, even if they disliked slavery.

There's a good discussion to be had here on how long a government can last if it opposes things that the majority of the population wants, but that's not what a certain group wants to talk about. They want to talk about how horrible gay marriage is and LGBTQ+ rights are, and how horrible the government is for supporting them. The truth is, they don't give a shit about government oppression, they just want an excuse to slag on people different than them.
