The Forge needs more balance

It seems to me that WF has become more and more right-wing during the last months. By right-wing I mean "extremist". Yeah, I know, WF has always been a right-wing biotope full of libertarian utopists, etc.... That's ok, because every forum has its flavour. I have no problem with this.

But this is no fun anymore. As a lurker, I regret this development. There are still one or two leftwingers, but their viewpoints are ridiculed before they even can speak up. Where is the amusement when the rightwingers are only discussing among themselves? Bashing Obama ad nauseam? Boring...

WF needs more lefties! But some posters here seem to have the goal to get rid of the "lefties" as fast as possible by flaming them into oblivion and negrepping them in the red. And sadly, some leftist sissies will stop posting because of this.



I love lurking here because it's fun to see you Americans dance and read what's going on over there to get an impression how you Americans see the world, but I get the feeling that there is no discussion anymore, just flaming and putting people down.

The "extremists", have always been dribbling crackpots, but they used to hide behind that grey murk of "maybe they're just joking..", well, they weren't, and they're not, and one or two of 'em will probably kill someone.

The ridiculing has always been around, the lack of reasoned argument has always been around, the "winning", argument by dirty one-upmanship, and gamesmanship rather than reasoning has always been around.

We just used to have a better breed of poster, both right and left, to balance it.

JJ - It could very well be that only the most seriously deluded will even kid about being on the left of the political spectrum in the U.S. anymore. There for a while, Obama made it chic for people to pretend the Left was Center but it's been getting painfully obvious what the real truth is.

I don't want shrieking communistic vaginas, I want real Americans. Are YOU guys real Americans, or are you just a bunch of extremists who have lost touch with the mainstream? How "american" is this board? It's difficult to see from my perspective.

Sure, you have your more liberal regions, like New England. Say 75-25 liberal in the city, 60-40 in rural mass.

I would contend that the "mainstream" has lost touch with being "American" in any sense that I value. Not sure I consider myself an extremist, but then I imagine extremists never do.

Hey, I'm left wing (ish) and I sort of post here. I just avoid the obvious threads that just want to be bitchy. There are some people here who are good to talk to about broad points even if I disagree with them (Hey Bock, Paladin!) because they make good points and force me to clarify my own. Discussion on both sides can be enlightening even if no common ground is found.

To be fair, I sometimes get scared off when I hear a pair of Thunder Thighs approaching.

However, I still love lurking here, because the personas here are so extreme and interesting... I'd love to meet some of you IRL and see if you are so passionate IRL, too. I can only hope it's a result of people slipping into a political viewpoint actually makes some damn sense.

From what I've noticed, most of the liberals that I've met and/or come into contact with on Wordforge have had several or all of the following characteristics:

Moonbat
Drug burnout
Lazy hippie
Self-righteousness
Sociopathic tendencies
Delusions of grandeur
Over-education
Abrasive social behavior
Obsessive behavior
Mood swings
Addictive personality

I'm sure I could think of a few more, but that's good enough. Now, of course, anyone could have these problems, but my point is that I find personality issues in more abundance and more prominently among left-leaning individuals.

In extremists, all of these can be found in right-leaning individuals as well, but another point I'd make is that they aren't as commonly found in the general right public as in the general left. Most righties just want to be left alone by the government and lefties. Most lefties are more intrusive with their points of view.

In my experience, righties can roll their eyes and move on with their lives, while lefties have to put their two sense in every chance they get.

There is a valid point to be made there.

If someone were to judge me purely by my actions, I'm just an unremarkable, daily-grinding cubicle monkey who doesn't do much of anything. Wordforgers hear more of what's on my mind than pretty much anyone I would encounter on a normal day. Not because I'm shy, but because I don't like to impose myself, and everyone here has to choose to read what I say.

No, there are not enough lefties here. They are are a hopeless minority which gets only so much attention because the right-wingers get all upset when they get the opportunity to flame the lefties.

The only real "leftie" here beside garamet is a poster fka John, and he's more a moderate than a leftie. And beside Garamet (who I respect as a troll, just like Diacanu), there are only a very few left.

I would imagine the parasite from the city would be easier to track, and you might not have to lead him so much at a dead run.
