I'm pretty darn accurate with a pistol. I'm pretty good with a rifle too, as my hunting this weekend proved to me.

Going in though, I was scared to death that I would wing a deer and never find it, and you know why? MAOHS's AR15. I've shot it a few times, and I am amazingly inaccurate with it.

Why is that? Is it mind warfare?!

It's because I always secretly dork up the windage when ever I hand it to you. :D

Nah...the AR's sights are one helluva lot different than ones you'll usually find on a bolt action. They take a lot of getting used to.

Oh, no..I don't hunt. Apostle's talking about when we shoot at the range. He's wondering why he can shoot his Mauser dead balls accurate, but has trouble with my AR.

Since nobody really cares about this thread I thought I would fuck with you.:ramen:

But its still not clear. Its seems like you were hunting with MAOHS rifle.

Maybe this confusion has caused people to skip over this thread.

Try to google some of the wealth of material from the Army Marksmanship Unit about firing the M-16 / AR-15. As with any other firearm its all about sight picture, breathing control and squeezing the trigger.

My 03a3 has ghost sights on it and I'm accurate with that. I also don't remember having problems with any of the M16A2's I fired at a gunsmith who was contracting for the Redstone Arsenal.

I think he's just screwed the sights up!

It also helps to have a guy hiding near the target with a .22 pistol shooting holes in the bullseye as your AR's round zips on past.

This is a rhetorical thread, innit? I mean there are any number of reasons you can't hit shit with an AR15. But it is very difficult to diagnose without actually seeing you shoot. At the very least, knowing what you're doing.

Are your shots grouping in the wrong place or are they all over the place, for example? The AR15 has very precise sights, but if you don't know your settings, they won't be worth a damn. If you have a significantly different hold on the rifle, the settings that work for MAOS won't be right for you.

Probably the most important if you're shooting for score, don't apply "Kentucky windage". If your first shot is high, don't aim low on the next shot. Shoot in the same place. If it is high again, you're on the right track. Shoot at the bullseye one more time. If you have a nice group that is too high, you know you need to adjust your rear sight accordingly. (Or too low or right to left. It is all adjustable.) If you are shooting someone else's gun, you might want to spring for one of them white-out correction pens. Then 'Shoes can mark his settings on the sights. So when you shoot, you adjust to your settings and when he shoots he can dial it back.

I guess you could both mark your settings, maybe just write an S and an A behind each mark. :borg:

If you ever get lost in the woods, just find a possum and he'll lead you to a road.

It's true! I saw it on Survivorman on the Discovery Channel.

Why not just skip the middle man and find a road, rather than find an opossum?

The secret to marksmanship pride is to buy weapons known to be somewhat inaccurate at any real distance so that marginal groups are expected. :ramen:
