OK, now it's taking several minutes to load any WF page.

Same here. Running in to unpredictable lags.

O2C, Kyle - I've just renewed our vBulletin license and we could go to the latest version if you think that would help.

You want to know the solution? A dedicated server.

You own the site, domain, and info. There are plenty of people here who would help pay for a dedicated server.

This reminds me of Battlestar Galactica.

(Tex, if you're reading this, you might want to skip the next part.)

Wordforge is like the ship. It is slowly deteriorating. Eventually, it will go down.

Perhaps we should all settle down among the natives, i.e. go outside into the real world and get nekkid. Then carve out what meager existence we can.

Then, centuries later, Baba and Packard can invisibly walk amongst a new set of disgruntled TrekBBS poster who are on the verge of splitting and forming their own forum.

    TKO as Hera confirmed. :tactfulsilence:

I'm sad I'm getting the hang-ups now. The formatting errors were bad enough, and I thought I was spared this latest problem. Guess not. :(

I assume you're referring to a dedicated physical server. That would, indeed, be the way to go. We are currently on a dedicated virtual server.

Setting up the server itself wouldn't be hard, it would be arranging adequate comms . . . hurm. Wonder if Verizon could hook me up? And what it would cost?

Whatever it is, it's clearly at the Apache level or lower. cPanel is taking forever to load, and that doesn't touch the database unless I tell it to.

We're getting an awful lot of blocked traffic from some very strange locations... hmm.

Seems the internet is flooding with these complaints. I am still getting redirects to various russian and chinese websites, even with a Spybot and Malwarebytes scans showing up nothing.

Maybe it's teh internet becoming self-aware? :tactfulsilence:

    Hey I've got an idea.

Maybe TBonz can host the site on Trekbbs for us!

Slow here and now my issues with the board have gotten worse. I haven't been able to see a damn picture for a week straight. Used to be I just had to reload two or three times, but now it's all gone to shit. Thanks. :)

It's blazing fast this morning, but there are only 7 people on. Usually you double that number for hidden users, so there are probably about 14 people on.

You don't have to set up the server itself, you just rent one from someone. Get one with unmetered bandwidth. Eboundhost.com, theplanet.com, etc are good. Heck, even Godaddy would be better.

I mentioned this in my computer troubles thread in Techforge, but I'll mention it here too.

Wordforge is blazing fast on my old computer. I am using Firefox version 2.0.0 02 on it. Kyle thinks the new Firefox is what is slowing down your shit.

I don't use the newest version of Firefox at home and, at work, I use IE.

Either way, the board is back to "normal" speed for me at both places. :flow:

If the issue is your computer or connection there is little anyone here can do to fix it.

After getting a new hard drive and getting everything up and running again, I installed Firefox 2.

    Everything is blazing fast. :ramen:

    Everything is slow again!

On a newly installed version of Google Chrome, I was getting 1 minute load times this morning. Something is definitely up!
