Not at all. The thread title was probably inapropriate. The problem is the inconsistent handling of such situations. Read Anna's many posts, I ran out of rep, but she deserves a shit load. Read Flashlight's post about the sexlight graphic. There is all kinds of age inappropriate material in the redroom. Mods make an issue of it when it affects a member of the clique, but ignore it the rest of the time. I have a problem with that.

That's because you either really are a newb, and therefore have no idea why this board exists, or you are a crappy trolling dual trying to stir shit up in spite of your awareness of board history.

This board exists because we like to use vulgar language and imagery and insult each other. We err on the side of chasing the offended out of the room rather than coddling somebody who's feelings are hurt. Unless somebody can demonstrate how the original thread title was illegal, the decision was shit when measured against the standards of this board. For some boards, it would be outstanding, but here it is shit.

And here, in a nutshell, is part of what is wrong with WF and why they fail to grow.

The split was YEARS ago. Async left TrekBBS, partly I think (he'll correct me I'm sure) due to the dislike of how the moderation was, the SAME type of thing for which many of you left.

He has been active here. I don't see him at TrekBBS anymore. He's said publicly that he thinks this place is run better. From what I can see, he has successfully made the jump from TrekBBS to WF. Like so many online, he seems to identify with just one community (I never get that. I belong to many and my loyalty belongs to me, not to TrekBBS, not to here, not to TK, etc.)

Yet he is still somewhat of a pariah here. Why? He belonged to TrekBBS. He was one of the evil overlords.

Did it ever occur to any of you that people can and do change? Did it ever occur to you that things aren't the same as they were? Did it ever occur to you that not all of the blame rested with TrekBBS?

This whole stupid little thing. Why did it escalate the way it did to the point where it's a joke? Because the thing that drove away many from TrekBBS wasn't just the heavy moderation, it was the EXTREME DISLIKE of being told what to do, the hatred of any type of authority.

Some of you guys still think that one should be totally free on WF and be able to say/do anything. People like Async that are calling for sensitivity towards a young girl are met with ridicule and contempt. And that's a real shame.

Async may have been a TrekBBSer (and he was a good mod), but he's NOT one of them anymore, and if any of you had the brains that God gave you, you'd see that. He's one of YOU, but he's one that doesn't have a tantrum when someone suggest restraint.

When you're on a board where it's OK to sexually harass people, it's NOT OK to insist that the victim, however gracious she was, get a thicker skin. She's not the first lady attacked that way here. It's common.

When you're on a board where it's OK to talk about a disabled person, one who moreover is one of your elite (and that's not a slam, just a fact), and say that turning off electricity and handing her cigarettes would take care of her, do you have ANY idea how dreadful and disgusting that is? And yet, there are some of you who think it's perfectly fine to say shit like that? Why? Because we're FREE here, NO shackles, NO restraints, had too much of that shit over at TrekBBS and IF we God forbid ask for people to self-censor, why then we're one short step from the Nazi Kingdom that is TrekBBS.

It's sad. Freedom should come with the maturity to know when to self-censor. Instead, some are here drumming their heels on the floor and saying that they should be able to do what they like.

When the end result is a death wish, however jesting, for Tamar, and sexual harassment, then I say you're wrong. And something is wrong with the atmosphere that permits this.

Get out from under TrekBBS's shadow. I say this as a WFer. You know, most don't think of me as WFer, but I am. I have been here from almost the beginning (courtesy of Storm, who invited me here as a target. Poor Storm. He doesn't know me very well, does he? ) The fear of turning into TrekBBS is inhibiting this place. When it causes you to turn on people like Async, or people who preach sense and caution, then you're fools.

Async, I feel badly for you. Some here will never accept you. Unless you totally repudiate TrekBBS publicly, you would still have it thrown in your face. And I think even if you DID come out and say you were wrong, it sucked, there are those who would still hold it against you. And that's too bad, because I think you have something valuable to give here.
