Well hun, like it or not, you've become a bit of T'bonz and Lisa's redheaded love child. Your name is as synonymous with this place as they are to Big Blue. It really doesn't matter to me if you stay on or not, but honestly, I think you've lost yourself in the position. As is pointed out in the other thread, even if you haven't lost objectivity, the appearance of it is sure long gone. Hell, from where I sit, you've gotten somewhat more adept with the ability to manipulate opinion... why else wouldn't the poll be anonymous? When challenged, you fall into a passive aggressive mode that even the wildest characature of Garamet couldn't manifest and then play innocent. Unbecoming of the authority that we're supposed to respect in you... I think the question you have to ask yourself here is if you have anything left to offer the board other than the same old thing that so many of us seem to be observing.
This. Polling is an easy way to keep things the same. Why? B/c only people who are present vote. And people that are present generally like the board. People who really don't like the way things are being run have left. Sure you are going to have some people sticking around that are mildly disgruntled, but usually that isn't enough to overcome status quo bias (better the devil you know).
Yeah you should quit but not leave. Get off the staff and be a regular poster and then let loose with both guns on anyone and everyone you feel like shooting.
not really... but maybe the idea that someone is actually available to moderate rather than run interference for those who amuse her would be worthrespecting.
I think Tamar should stay simply because she knows the ins and outs of the board better than anyone, probably even Lanzman (at least with non-technical issues). And she knows the characteristics of almost everyone on the board and understands the rules and board dynamics better than anyone else. Yes she trolls, flames, associates with cliques, takes sides in arguments and has participated or involved herself in much of the drama that has gone on at this place for years... like all the rest of us. But I don't ever recall any of that affecting her duties as a moderator. Hell, the founder and first owner of this board, Cassandra, did all those things to an even greater extent than Tamar. The point is that moderators are posters here just like everyone else. Besides... from my brief, unremarkable stint as moderator here, I can tell you that the board pretty much moderates itself. I don't think I ever took a single action as a moderator except to move a thread somewhere else. It's all really minor stuff... killing spambots, moving/merging threads, technical issues... there is so little need for moderators these days I am not even sure who all is on the staff. Wordforge basically runs itself these days, especially compared to the days when Cassandra and Elwood ran the board. Speaking of that, I miss having Cassandra around. I think the board lost something when she left. The place just feels kind of empty now, compared to the first few years when it seemed like we had far more active posters.
Which, in my opinion, is how it should be, we're all members, with a few members volunteering to occasionally sort threads, correct thread titles, and ban bots...
And you're very experienced at it! You've been ORRMM for just a bit over 3 years now. To be precise, it's been 1153 days and 4 hours. That makes 27,676 hours! Or, if you like bigger numbers, that makes 1,666,560 minutes, or a staggering 99,633,600 seconds! That means a mere 101 hours, 46 minutes and 40 seconds until it will have been an even 100 million seconds. (That works out to 4.208 days.) Of course, that all depends on how long it takes to read this post. If the average reading speed of the average WF user is called a, and the average number of words in an Asyncritus post is called W (a variable that large deserves a capital letter), then the actual number of seconds remaining by the time you get done reading this post can be expressed by the formula: T=99,633,600-(W/a). Still, a pretty amazing accomplishment. You're 99 44/100ths percent of the way to eliminating math in the Red Room!
This. I'd rather have one mod with questionable objectivity than nearly the whole fucking staff like what we had six years ago---Nick, Chris, Cass, and especially [-]The Neroonkeeper[/-] BearTM would usually go into mod issues and pretty much dismiss things outright because they didn't like the people involved. Since the TKO Deflowering thread scandal, there hasn't been a Members vs. Mods issue on the board of that scale, but before then, it was almost a semi-annual thing.
I voted "no", that I would have to qualify that as not any time soon. We just had a great season opener with Sokar/Tsavir/KIRK going down in a quick succession and we need to play the "will she/won't she" story" line until sweeps. Then she dramatically quits, but comes back in the season finale to save us from the sudden return of Cass. Also, you could feed all of Africa for a year from the drama in the OP alone.
Lots of people have shown and continue to show theirs in this and related threads. Is this really what the Red Room was made for?
No, that's stupid, and whomever suggested it is a childish douchebag to be mocked and pelted with rocks. I say "whomever" because I refuse to read this shit to learn the details.
Every admin has their flaws and Tamar isn't any different, but I think WF would be hard pushed to find someone equally as dedicated to admin this place if she goes. I'm not terribly bothered if a staff member leaves but replacing the outgoing is a concern and unless we have someone lined up to take over Tamar's duties here then I think she should remain.
I voted yes, though it's a soft yes and and not for the reasons in this thread. I've always though that a mod rotation between the people who really care about this place was the best way to do things. The board mostly self moderates its posters anyways. The Mods jobs for the most part seem to me to be mostly backend cleaning up and shoving a pacifier in the mouth of whatever baby is complaining in the help desk about another poster taking their legos away or some such.
Ok, in all honesty...... I don't care either way!! Maybe in the past, I did think you should have stepped down, you'd been in the job too long, certainly were in a little clique, and more often than not appeared to be on a power trip. That was my opinion before, now I start to lean towards the recognising how much of yourself you pour into this place. Regardless of reason why, - love of wordforge versus having to do it to keep yourself occupied giving you a something constructive and tangible to do while you don't keep so well (this is not a dig btw), the fact remains that I can't see any other candidate putting in the hours you do. I would probably vote for you to stay on. PS - I do agree with some of the posters here who think this is just a big :lookatme: thread to massage your ego. Not that theres anything too wrong with that. Anyway, you should stay on for the time being. El Chu's takeover deal is imminent and he'll fire you anyway.
I'd like an order of deep fried pickles with a garnish of ho-hos on the side... Oh, wait. Wrong staff.
