What video did you see? I didn't see him slam her desk backward. It fell off of her as he got her out of the desk. And I saw nothing resembling a chokehold.

All she had to do was comply with three different people who told her to get up and leave the classroom. Three people all with the authority to do so.

Why was it their job to de-escalate?

It is their job to de-escalate a situation, because "serve and protect" also means not letting innocent bystanders become injured or killed due directly to police action. In short, if you harm more people than the perpetrator, you shouldn't have that job.

He totally slammed her desk backward. :wtf:

Additionally, he threw her...which is apparently a no-no according to the Sheriff. It seems you're not supposed to intentionally loose control of someone you're trying to detain.

I didn't see in the video anyone come remotely close to being hurt.

For that matter the girl in question wasn't hurt that I could tell.

    No harm no foul.

No, don't go that far. I think you would be right in that a white girl would not have gotten flipped that way. There is probably a well defined racial aspect to it where the officer did not respect her as a human being because of her skin color. I would be with you in thinking that whole situation would have gone down different if it were a white girl, and yes that is wrong. There is just too much evidence of a very large racist streak in our country's police.

No, that officer did not walk into a mine field. He walked into a physical altercation with a small black girl because he was going to teach her a lesson for being disobedient. He came in with no reservation or caution. That is not how you walk into a mine field. Please stop trying to excuse his actions.

Do you do that a lot at your school where you are a coach? You go into your school and do that to one of the disobedient kids and see where you end up. No harm no foul my ass. That is not even a good way to take the child out of the desk.

That is the way it is in classrooms now. They all have their cell phones out and are talking to each other while the teacher goes on. You really have to be making a racket to disrupt the class. I actually had to ask my father to record his math class in high school because i did not believe students would just talk in class and answer their phones. Yes they do, and you cannot discipline them because their parents gave them that phone so they could call them anytime they wanted. Taking away their phone at school is interrupting their phone time with mom and dad. Not that mom and dad actually call.

Since it has gone this far I think that they should really put real time cameras in every classroom so that parents can observe what their kids are doing during class time.

Nope. As I've said already up thread. I picked up the desk, student and all, and deposited them in the hallway.

Another time I simply grabbed the front of the desk and pulled the desk, student at all into the hall and left them.

Once again, never laid a hand on (him in the second case). Even I understand that if you actually put your hands on an angry student that even if justified you are asking for trouble.

The only time I put my hands on students is when I've been trying to separate fighting students or teaching various hand fighting techniques to football players.

yeah, and that is not counting those times in the locker room when no one was around. But that was not really laying your hands on the kids in a mean way.

Oh my she has a band aid on her neck!!!!!

    from your link.

Rutherford said. “She is a student who is 16 years old, who now has a cast on her arm, a band aid on her neck, and neck and back problems. There’s something wrong here.”

The entire injury report sounds contrived.

Actually, the whole injury report sounds pretty "light" for the way she was thrown around.

Trust me, if a white person is acting like a bitch cops are very equal opportunity when it comes to delivering the smack down. I have never had it happen to me but I have seen it in action on other people. I can't say I blame the cops either.

I am calling bull shit and think some lawyer got to her, convinced her she will make millions if she fakes it, and now she thinks she has the golden ticket. The reality is lotto winners blow their cash on stupid shit and end up broke a few years later. You can't fix stupid.

I've seen girls fighting where one has another on the ground kicking the other in the ribs and the one being kicked had no real injuries.

To me it is obvious the police officer had no intent to harm the girl. If he had malicious intent he could've easily hurt her once she was off camera.

    Of course you are.
So? I've seen people who were injured far worse (one even paralyzed) by attacks far milder than was shown in the video.

And apparently the video shows the cop "throwing her across the room". Maybe I watched an edited version.

Bull...mother...fucking...shit. My kids went through HS not too many years ago in the land of Dixie. If anything the cop would have been harder on a white girl - because they know the world won't flip out. In my kid's HS black kids got away with more because the school was scared of being called "racist." BTW that cop is married to a black woman - oops there goes your narrative.

Pretty much this. The girl shouldn't have been using her phone but the reaction was totally disproportionate to the situation. It's hard to understand why people think that what happened, i.e. an adult turning a non-violent situation involving a child into a violent altercation, was justified. Seems like a severe case of authoritarian fuckwittery to me.

As for the girl's lawyer now claiming she has multiple injuries including having to wear a cast on her arm..... :dayton:

How much you bet this same shyster has a few clients wearing neck braces because they've suffered "whiplash" in fender benders? :dayton:

The lawyer is probably the king of slip & falls and files 10 suits a week against Wal-Mart and other local grocery stores.

I don't know if we are all seeing the video through the same lens. I've already stated that I lack the expertise to evaluate whether or not it portrays excessive force. But when I look at the video, what I see is the deputy trying to lift her out of the desk, with her responding by hooking her legs under it, thereby causing the lifting/pulling of her to topple the desk. I could be wrong, perhaps that's not what happened, but it is how it looks to me.

Wow - that would make sense! If you don't want to removed, your natural reaction is to hook your legs around something solid. Obviously the chair was not, and has a high center of gravity. BTW pretty much all furniture is quite portable. Check out this video (also from either North or South Carolina.)

She's literally sitting in her seat doing nothing when the cop acts out.

I didn't realize the US army churned out pussies, but here we are.

The takedown was overkill, there was a better way to do it especially when you're talking about a grown man and a teenage girl, the cop department agreed that it was excessive and fired the guy. End of story.

Man, and you guys wonder why you have so many problems.

I have not seen a better way of doing it suggested in this thread. Most of the suggestions I've seen were to basically cede control of the classroom to the student. Do that and in the future you have chaos.
