That sucks Dan :( though my hour update ended up only taking 30 minutes...and its a Friday anyway, you can play all night!

So a little spoiler for you; hardcore mode hasn't significantly altered my playstyle, except that I really don't take on packs of enemies...in FO3 I'd just bum-rush and start hitting my stim hot-key...on hardcore its not even worth hotkeying stims as they take so long to work. Also, I've had far more crippling injuries as you can't just stim your limbs...but the food/water/sleep stuff is more a small annoyance than an actual game-changer.

The Vegas Strip is kinda cool...save the various currencies you get as well...California and Legionairy Script can both be exchanged in the casinos and I think you get a slightly better rate than you'd get from merchants (especially if you win).

OK I was messing about with settings, trying to get the best performance and trying to figure out why it didnt seem to run as well as F3.
It turns out a bad .dll was shipped with the game and will be fixed in an upcoming patch.
For those on PC's that dont want to wait for the patch put the attached file in your '\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas' folder.

It massively improves performance, Im now running the game completely maxed at 1920x1200

Made it to level 10 after a restart at level 4. So far so good though there are some glitches and misinformation I have spotted. Only two lockups so far.

Having to share it with the offspring though, ... or else. :calli:
She's a bit more bol in her approach and though I tried to raise her right she tends to go the bad gal approach as opposed to my lawbringer style.
Fucking Legion is some tough sunzabitches and I managed to stay neutral untill i went to resupply the NCR at Camp Forelorn ( ) where they poured over the hill and I got my ass handed to me.
After that, the assassins were sent out and after a couple of tries I managed to fry them running backwards.

Deathclaws are damn near unstoppable and if there's more than one, fuggettaboutit!

Yea, I moved from Goodsprings to Novac and am set up there these days. I've gotten Helios One online, sent some ghouls of on their Great Journey, and just got to the dam last night.
I need to wait till tonight to resume so the better half doesn't have a reason for the evil eye.

I'm sure I'm missing stuff but that's the great thing about this game, you do it again and again.

Still going at it blind and will for at least the first run.

I've found lots of little side quests to do for odds and ends an cappage. Many of the critters are unique including a Meta Human variety I have yet to establish an origin for.

I sure wish I had a little pocket recorder to keep a log on. Oh well, next round maybe.

Hardcore mode is going to take a month when I do that one I fear.

Just finished my first playthrough on hardcore - I ended up not supporting either the NCR or the Legion - I don't want to give away too much, but it was kind of interesting right up until the very last fight (then it was a little over the top) needless to say, just trying to play through the main storyline left me in bad bad shape for the last battle.

Honestly, the thing about hardcore was just avoiding most of the fights - legion assassins could be timed and avoided

The end was slightly more interesting than the vanilla end from FO3...at least the end I chose...I assume there's way more to some of the other endings. Now I plan to take a leisurely pace through the game and do all the side-quests; there were many that I uncovered doing just the main-story line - though my path rendered a bunch of them undoable - especially when some of the quest givers were buried beneath tons of rocks on my account *evilish grin*.

I learned in F3 that following the main storyline is a shortcut to your demise, at least before Broken Steel was released.

So I decided to only do portions of that quest to get map markers and such since apparently if you drag your feet on it there is no penalty.

Besides, the game to me is an exploratory adventure and I fully immerse myself in it. I have a tendency to speak with everyone I come across if they will, plus the scav.., er uh, prospecting.

When the grannies attacked with rolling pins as I left a building I had a pretty hearty laugh,... that is until Boone mowed them down. Hell, I couldn't get them pulled up in VATS he nailed them so quick. The names were a hoot!

Well I love to explore, but honestly hardcore was more annoying than fun...lots of status messages about food/water/sleep which really served no purpose other than to remind me to click something in my inventory...it wasn't like I had to spend much time actually looking for necessities. The combat effects were very cool - I'll give it a huge thumbs up for that, I just didn't want to have to worry about clicking water or food every 5 minutes while running around the countryside. Also (and this was the last straw) I forgot to save/pause when I went to bed Friday night after several hours of hard questing (brotherhood of steel stuff)...fuck me right? I was wondering what I'd die of after 6-7 hours sitting in the desert real time.

Turns out nothing...my sleep dep was 600ish and food/water were like 500 each - wth? You simply can't die of the "hardcore" effects through normal gameplay or even almost intentionally. I'm sure someone will make a heal-over-time mod for stims and then I can play "hardcore" without the hassle.

I also really wanted to try the Wild-West perk, I can't wait to see what this does. :)

Lots of little nagging buggy-ish things in the game. Kill Powder Gangers, gain karma, kill all the Powder Gangers and loot the prison - lose karma for each item you take???

Yea, true to form just like F3, you have to steal your enemy's crap. I haven't cleaned out the prison yet but I have popped a few of them from the cliffs around it.
I went through the door and was greeted with a hail of lead and was immediately mowed down but I was like at level four when I did.
I'm going back soon with some backup. :techman:

I'm poking around outer Vegas atm. I managed to get The King in a place where he ows me a favor. I suspect it's getting me past the goons at the gate but I'm not ready to hit the strip yet.

You know, I find myself disillutioned at the NCR but with so many factions they seem to be the best game in town for this run.

I feel quite certian the BOS boys will be less than cordial when I do finally run across them considering they are just like that fucking Outcast bunch.

I'd give my front seat in hell for a sniper rifle. :marathon:

The BOS in FO3 broke off of the main intent of the BOS out west and the Outcasts were actually serving their original purpose... so really the nuts out in the DC wasteland were the deserters of the main intent of the BOS, the Outcasts if you will, and the guys you'll end up seeing in the Mojave are actually acting exactly how they are supposed to.

You could simply give a merchant some caps for a scope attachment to one of your long guns. I have yet to see a sniper rifle anywhere in the game.

Yea, I knew of the changes Lyons made and the outcasts being the true to BOS beliefs which is why I said I expected attitude problems. Initially I managed to just ignore the Outcasts but they became enemies in F3.

I did finally come across them a couple of days ago and after trying the direct approach of just whacking them restarted the dialog and ended up befriending them and doing all of their quests.

Later on now things may change considering it appears the option of taking over all factions may be a possability with the Yes Man. :diablo: .

Just met the Boomers. Interesting lot. and I am adored.

Now, who to back in the upcoming war.....

Mr. House, well, he is responsable for me gatting a bullet in the head but he has usul idiot written all over him......

NRC, well, seems a bit like a liberal front to me and folks aren't too keen on them in certian circles.....

Caesar is dead. Sure, someone will take his place but then they'll be dead too. Fucking savages.

The Three Families, well, let's just say there's been a change of management. :diacanu:

I finally found a sniper rifle, of course that was after buying a .50cal for 7000 caps. :marathon:

I just picked up the Jury Rgging perk and it was a welcome change because it allows crossover of items for repairs. w00t! :foil:

:mob: They made the sprint AP perk only come up twenty points upon V.A.T.S. closeout after a kill.

The magazines are a novel change and apparently are to be relied upon since getting 100% on skills appears to be a bit more dificult. I haven't found a whole lot of skill books out there, maybe a half dozen so far.

I do like being able to breath underwater though.

That .50 rifle sure makes short work of the Reavers, and considering the sheer numbers in certian areas it is a nice addition to the arsenal.

No gatilin lazers yet, except the one a BOS patrol had. I suspect to find one eventually.

Man, aside of some little irritations they hit another home run afaIc.

    Almost to level 28.

I chose a route and headed for the Hoover Dam after getting a little assistance from the Boomers and their Howitzers. Went as far as almost beating the legion badass and decided not to end it just yet. That moment has a bit of finality to it and there were other avenues I want to explore.

Never mind I was gatting my ass handed to me in a chemically addicted state, we'll just leave that out. :?:

Nah, I'd done a shitload of exploring and wanted to do more before the last gasp so I went back to the little roadside shop where Veronica was hanging out, told Boone to take a hike after unloading him back at Novac with a bit of thanks and headed back to 188.
I want to take each of the companions out to that point because thats part of the enjoyment of the game. I figure that I'll head up to Jacobstown and grab that one next round.
I''m not going all the way back, i figure this last changeover point will do sufficently enough.
A big part of the fun is going through the dialog for me.

Like I noticed when I took Veronica back with me to Nellis when i talked to the kids one option was to offer them irridated gum. :rotfl:
I can imagine how that'd turn out, pissed off Boomers with me in their sights is what.

So this round I have joined the BOS and it's... interesting. One has to remember what faction armour he's wearing when walking up to NRC camps (:Oooo: )and I've found people aren't too nice to Veronica at certain locations.

This game definately has my interest. So much so I found myself irritated when my daughter requested it to play a while.

The Yes Man is a hoot.

One thing I have learned in F3, the robotics perk is mandatory and NV is no different. If you ever want to get to talk to Mr. House without suffering you do.

My poor Reach disk is collecting dust.

I cleared vault 34 and it took all of my available inventory, all of ED-E's available inventory and a little bit of Boone's to carry all the swag out of the armory. Realistically, Boone and ED-E are the perfect companions for my play style so when I head to the last fight they will be the ones I bring along. Still, I will be offloading them temporarily to perform all the other companion quests and once I have free run of the Lucky 38 all of my companions that are on vacation will be hanging out in my swank pad.

I have seen the true face of Mr. House, and upon his death you receive +1 to the number of abominations killed, so that may give you a hint of his current state.

I also have become somewhat of an abomination myself, considering I am no longer completely human. Bought a few cybernetic upgrades and am saving my caps so that I can have health regeneration.

Next big goal is clearing out the Fiends, I won't be done with them until they are all corpses or I have no bullets left.

NCR is absolutely in love with me right now, but they won't like me much when all is said and done... Boone will probably leave, but these things can't be helped.

I went ahead and did the complete runthrough for The House Always Wins perk. Well, it gives the perk before the final credits but I went ahead and did it all.

Call me a sucker for the Brotherhood but it came time to take them out so I did. I had Veronica at the time so needless to say she failed to see the humor in my actions.
After a good ass chewing she left with my t-45d armor. Futher interaction was greeted with "Leave me alone".
Oh well. I went and recruited Cass for the task from there.

I'm working on my all companions perk at the moment, but I can't seem to find Raul. I'll find him eventually. There's a couple of places I need to look yet. I've found his shack but he doesn't seem to be around.

I didn't realize you could send them all back to TL38, I assumed you couldn't acquire another taking that option and have opted for just taking them back to their place of origin and cutting them loose. I'll give that a go tonight.
It'd be interesting to just have them all there and sit and listen to the interaction. I have people talking to Rex all the time.

Whacking House gave me bad karma and I wasn't paying attention to the abomination angle, but I'll check it out tonight as well.

Yea, the NCR idolize me but ultimately with the THAW runthrough their tone changed considerably at the end.

Speech challanges galore at the end so be prepared.

    Anyhoo, back to the wastes.

Rounded up all of the known companions last night and brought them to TL38 and the messages upon release there were a but funny. Cass was... reluctant.

I stll haven't found Raul though and have exhausted any clues of where to find him. I suppose my self imposed set of peeking rules will now face a limited hiatus as I am about to check the fallout Wiki for assistance. I may have already whacked him I fear but I'll know soon enough....

    brb...

[action=Caboose]heads over to the Wiki page....[/action]

    :chris:

Ahhh, as I suspected, he is the last one and it helps knowing a couple of things found there. Ah well, I had to go there eventually now I can concentrate on strategery for the rest of the stuff in the game.

I gotta go way back for this guy methinks but we'll see tonight.

I know one thing, that Wiki slows this crate down so badly with the five thousand per page ad setup it's torturous. :marathon:
