I remember reading "The Return of Hugo Strange" in the Batman comics in the 70s when I was a kid. At one point, Hugo even becomes Batman, having discovered Bruce Wayne's secret and locked him away in an asylum. Alas, poor Hugo gets beaten to death by baddies when he refuses to reveal Batman's secret identity. The Hugo Strange character goes waaaaaaaaaay back in the Batman mythos. I remember the 70s storyline having a callback to the first Hugo Strange story and the panel's footnote (which told you what issue of the comic you could refer to for that story) was something like: "Batman (believe it or not) #1!!!"
I've heard the Strange speculation but how would they get around Gordon knowing who he really is? The reason i said Freiz is the voice and manner of speech reminded me a lot of the voice actor in TAS
They've already established that he changed his name and identity once. And AFAIR, Strange never had a secret identity in the strict sense of being unidentifiable to Gordon & Co., did he? True.
Usually when I find myself hating a fictional character, I consider it good writing, but I don't know what Gotham is trying to do with Barbara Keane, given that Gordon obviously ends up with her. Emotionally unstable, sexually confused, co-dependent… give me a redeeming quality already.
Excellent, as I haven't seen the most recent episode yet. Now I can look even more forward to watching it.
How do we know it's THIS Barbara he ends up marrying? She's surely not the only eligible lady by that name out there. I'm holding out hope that someone kills this one to get to Jim and his reaction is "Meh"
She doesn't look right at all. At all. I don't even like Supergirl all that much, but clearly, that's not her.
loving the costume design shown here: http://observationdeck.io9.com/so-i-was-just-googling-supergirl-1681419456
it's how they deal with the reality that spandex is almost always silly looking on screen. That said, I don't like the muted colors on Supes but it works a LITTLE better here - still would like richer somewhat brighter colors.
I feel guilty. I'm getting impure thoughts from looking at Hit Girl dressed up as Supergirl. I do like that costume, but I'm sure the one on TV will be very different.
Absolutely my favorite run in Detective! I was still in high school myself when I first read them. While I love Walt Simonson's art on the Dr. Phosphorus two parter, Marshall Rogers remains my favorite Bat-Artist to this day. For fans of Batman TAS, Rogers & Englehart's Joker tale, The Laughing Fish was loosely adapted for that show. Enough of the Caped Crusader for now, I have to admit that I'm a little peeved that Arrow has wimped out (so far) on the Lazrus Pit. I would've thought that with a full on Slade Wilson last season, The Flash & Firestorm this year, and the introduction of Brick, they would be ready to keep showing Oliver how deep the DC universe rabbit hole really goes. But no, I'm afraid they've decided to (even more preposterous to me, anyway) go the The Dark Knight Rises route of magically healing such a grievious wound with battlefield treatment and bed rest. The Flash, on the other hand, did not disapoint. Having both Heat Wave & Captain Cold on hand was all sorts of fun. Still not sure of Dr. Wells' motives, but if he is the red-eyed Reverse Flash of episode 9, he has killed at least four people, or maybe five. So still a villian by any measure.
Me too. This is a perfect example of the difference between Arrow & Flash. While Arrow seems to shy away from its comic book roots, Flash glorifies in it, and is a better show for it.
Oh, no, racists, Jimmy Olson is black!! First Nick Fury, then Perry White, then Johnny Storm, now Jimmy Olson!! When will it end?!?!?! http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/35592/jimmy-olsen-role-cast-in-cbs-supergirl
Regarding the Lazrus pit on Arrow. On this week's Arrow After Show on You Tube, John Campea revealed that one of the Arrow writers would only confirm that there is indeed a Lazrus Pit set...
Ok. Clearly I do have to start watching Arrow. I've asked this before, but what's the best current point to jump on, given that I couldn't get into season 1 at all?
Binge-watching is your friend. Trust me, third try at the show. First time was during the first season. Always enjoyed when I watched, but didn't make a point of it. Then last year, just by chance, I tuned in to see Barry Allen's lab accident that results in him becoming the Flash. This fall, I kept watching both shows from the start of the season, and binge-watched Arrow seasons one & two. By episode six or seven it's a great ride, by episode nine, you'll be hooked, both on the Starling City and the island flash-back storylines. And yes, that is Slade Wilson/Deathstroke's mask you'll see early on in episode one. He may or may not be the big bad of season two. Seriously, Arrow is the real deal, you won't be sorry. If only Agents of SHIELD were half as good, I'd like it (AoS, that is) twice as much as I do now. Edit: Season one of Arrow should be very reasonably priced now too, bought mine in the fall for around $15 U.S. (on DVD, Blu-ray is probably higher though). Edit #2: Just remembered, episode one of season two on the DVD set is a very good "previously on Arrow/what has gone before" show, it doesn't cover eveything, but it does a good job of re-capping season one. Another option to consider.
Season 1 picks up after the first couple of episodes, IMHO. Season 2 is kind of uneven in quality. They threw out the premise of season 1 and just couldn't seem to be as cohesive in the second season. (I'm only up to the Christmas episode of season 2, so I can't say how it goes after that. It does look like they're about done with the island sub-plot, which is good, because I'm getting tired of that shit.)
alternately, read the wiki for any parts that you decline to watch so you at least know what's what. But it's better to watch the character development take place. Here's my thumbnail on that: Oliver gets steadily better Diggle is consistently great Felicity starts off good and at this point is probably the most appealing character on the show Roy is annoying for a while but he comes out as your standard skilled sidekick with too little story of his own Oliver's mom weaves back and forth some but even when she's trying to do right she doesn't get more likeable Thea, his sister, consistently annoys the fuck out of me Tommy, the best friend, doesn't get better but it doesn't matter Tommy's dad Malcolm is played by John Barrowman which is enough for me butr i suppose there's someone out there who doesn't like him Slade is good all the way through most villains are well drawn, particularly Vertigo and Huntress Laurel is not well written, for the most part, her sister generally is much more appealing The biggest storytelling weakness, IMO, is that Oliver has a major case of Kirk Syndrome. Not counting incest, he's in love with, fucking, or both, pretty much every female you see at one point or another.
I actually liked Season 2 much better because there's less family/friend non-crime-related drama, and what there is of it is less all-over-the-map
