    Crucial difference here.......

The bar owner is upfront with these patrons.

The guy running Wordforge? Not so much in this case.

Wordforge isn't a business. A bar really only has to worry about the area it is in. Wordforge is competing against the whole world. If Ancalagon makes the Red Room a "derp" free room is he going to attract new members? Not at any greater rate then we already are getting new members. Might get one or two old ones to come back.

I don't disagree with anything you've said, Wordforge has stagnated. That's been said many times before by many different people.

I've also observed many times before that WF has a lot of untapped potential. In some ways it's like a strip mall waiting for retailers to move in.

Sanitizing the Red Room isn't the path to revitalizing Wordforge. The solution is to build up the other forums. So far I've heard nothing from any of the 4 owner partners about how to accomplish this.

Well I'm not going to go into specifics on what I would do to "fix" it, but suffice to say most would not be popular with the "old loyal crowd". As my story pointed out, by definition the changes necessary to grow the forum would piss off and likely drive away many of the old guard, and that includes some staff. The catch is...your makeover may not work...then you gots nuthin.

    Them's the breaks.

And being dismissive and insulting toward board members while discussing policy tends to turn them off.

Start a green room or help desk thread to discuss changes and provide a link from the red room.

But in the end, a forum is not run by committee...especially one when people are trying to prevent change or keep a playground.

Was the ignore feature a change in the Red Room? What about creating the Arena? Both of those were past solutions.

I'm seriously getting tired of repeating myself b/c people would would rather stir shit by arguing against what they THINK I secretly want instead of what I'm actually saying.

Until someone wants to step up and try doing that I think I'll take y'all's advice and just ignore this thread for a while.

Simple solution: Take your fingers out of your ears, stop going :lalala: and leave everything out in the forum the fuck alone.

You want to manipulate people? Do it by PM. Start with Dayton and his "followers." That should occupy your free time until your hair turns white.

And lose the "is doing it for you." Nobody asked you.

I like this plan, if Anc decides he's going to make changes.

Ancalagon's response to the observation that he is ignoring what is said in this thread is a decision to ignore this thread. That is, I don't know, not a way to get something done.

Although the whole thread could be considered a troll, if you come down to it. Have major policy decisions been made in the Red Room before?

All major policy decisions of all the major global powers can ultimately be traced back to Red Room threads.

Agree that it's refreshing. Transparency was a goal from the start. Is that the part that you also consider misguided? If so, the horesmen are in pretty strong agreement on the idea. Now if you mean the suggestion that Red Room debate be more moderated is the misguided part, then I agree with that, too.

But people should hopefully understand that the impulse is reasonable. We've all been frustrated at times by derailment and spam. It's no surprise that some would want to take pro-active steps. My view is that such steps would likely not succeed, and worse, would likely change the character of the Red Room in undesired ways. But that's just me.

What steps? Putting the New Posts alert at the top? For the tenth time now, no 'steps' to change the Red Room have been decided. This is the place to talk about a myriad of solutions, but people would rather continue to stir shit than do so.

Gee, it's too bad you can't see the posts agreeing - if reluctantly - with Paladin's suggestion for a No Derp sticker on some threads so that the poster and not the staff can decide what constitutes "derp" in their threads.

It's really too bad you can't see that. :(

I wonder whose fault that is? :mystery:

It's almost as if you want the :drama: to continue indefinitely.

As a non-owner, I can confirm that there are no Shelter threads on this topic.

In fact, there are hardly any threads in there at all.

    I dunno.

    I've not used ignore here.

Is that how it works? You don't even see when other people quote people you're ignoring?

I don't know, I haven't used it either. But if people are using it to avoid the to and fro of certain RR exchanges, it would have to do that, no?

It didn't work that way on the old board (I tested it a couple of times, but never used it more than than), but maybe the ignore feature on this board works differently.

I've never used ignore, but my understanding from comments made by others is that all evidence of the poster disappears. No "post hidden" message, no visibility of quoted content. Therefore, I don't think Ancalagon has seen any of Garamet's posts. They'd need to be quoted like this:
