If the choice is between a board owners using ignore, or coming up with crazy rules to keep them sane, I'd rather they just use ignore.

I'd say no owner, administrator or moderator should. It's not just about being able to respond to emergencies -- nobody thinks garamet is going to start porn-bombing the Red Room. But owners, administrators and moderators also have to take part in threads like this, and should be able to hear everything any member has to say.

Yes, especially since eliteforge wants to have the conversation here and nowhere else. Sadly, Anc ignores (whether with the function or now) over half the posts here that don't please him.

Until recently--for most of the life of the board--we had a feature that allowed the members to self-moderate when posters were being disruptive. :?:

And if it hadn't been abused massively and regularly by a handful of posters who used it, not to deal with posters who were being disruptive but only on "the other side of the aisle" politically, the board wouldn't have self-moderated by voting to keep it neutered. If it hadn't been for that handful, it would have been a fun toy to have around (though nothing more, contrary to what they thought).

Yes, and it becomes especially poignant when Anc puts participants in an argument on ignore and then starts his own argument with "nobody here has said anything about..."

Just for the record, there is only only poster I have on ignore and it is the same poster I've had off and on for years now. It has nothing to do with this thread, or even topic. Every now and then I'll soften up and take her off but within a week she's convinced me she's still only a bitter, bitter caricature with nothing to give except bait to those she has decided are her enemies.

If things like that are too much for a person, particularly to the point of making them feel insane...then this isn't really the job for them. To do the job right you need to be able to communicate with everyone and "Ignore" is counter to that.

I hate thread derailing bitchfights...but censorship can't be the go-to option in a place like WF. Even mild censorship like thread surgery...people are far to sensitive to any threat to the special and unique place WF is because it contains a forum where anything legal can happen without interference..or the very, very minimum of interference. Members here treasure the Red Room in equal measure to how it can also frustrate them. Structure and change most any part of WF with any experiment you want and it will be tolerated until you want to muck with the Red Room.

So don't muck with it. Leave it alone. Do your work on the other forums to make them more appealing and more interesting and try to balance the place that way. No one is forced to stay in a thread that bothers them. Either talk around the derp or simply leave the thread. The derp or the thread will die soon enough on it's own. We are mostly adults who do not need, nor want nannying to that level. At least not in this one place. If we want moderation the Green Room awaits and it's still waiting because most people don't want moderation...yet they do want to bitch and moan about the things they hate. You can complain about things without really wanting any measures taken about it. Or want what the staff can't provide....the people in question to maybe knock off the shit or at least tone it down by their own choice because they realize they are not making the board better with their antics.

WF is complex and easy answers are few and far between when running the board...but when it comes to the Red Room less is always, always the better option unless and until their is a really pressing reason to do something more drastic and has there really been a reason for that yet?

That would be spam, and it would get moved to a Derp Thread for disrupting the flow of conversation.

You probably ought to get a warning even for suggesting it...

The board voted to not fuck rep up more than it needed to be.

    Big difference. :borg:

And now that the biggest offenders are dead and/or gone, as well as the screeching pussies that pushed for the change, there's no reason to not try again, assuming John can find a more smooth system to do so with this shitty ass software.

Or we could bring back the Arena. Remember what happened to the last poster I challenged to a debate there? He suddenly "got busy with Real Life" and avoided this place for two years...while simultaneously posted furiously in TNZ.

I can see it now: Two Gingers Enter, One Ginger Leaves.

He'd have survived if he'd brought some new material and worked on his presentation. Instead, he just came back with the same three topics and the same badly spelled, grammatically mangled, obscenity-laden retreads. Pity...
