Quite enjoyed the series, but I seriously don't get the point of a show putting people in dangerous situations you know they'll get out of because it's a prequel.

Oh no! Leia's been kidnapped? Will they ever get her back? A 1977 movie says, yes, yes she will, she'll be just dandy.
Yikes! Luke's been taken! They might kill him! Oh, just got a text from shortcode 1977 saying "SPOILER ALERT!" Wonder what that'll be about?
ZOMG! Vader vs Obi Wan! Who will survive? *ping* oh, an email from someone called 'A New Hope' with the subject "both of them"

It was the wrong story, take the cliff notes from Rogue One, the ones saying "put all the new guys in danger" and build from that, could've been a really good Obi Wan redemption tale and if they really wanted to go to town, should have had the whole plot about getting Palpy junior and his missus away from Emperor Dad and kept Vader for his own series.

If the only reason you're watching ANY tv show or movie is because you don't know how it will end, you're doing it wrong. IMHO. Most tv and movies, you know within the first 1/10 of the movie or series whether or not the main character is going to live or die or achieve their goal or ... whatever. The rest is just watching the story unfold.

    Really.
All the Star Trek captains had plot armor.
Rick and Michonne had plot armor.
Maggie and Negan have plot armor thanks to their spinoff (they'd better not fuck :yuck:).
It's part of fiction you have to work with.

Because I’m bored…, I’m watching this again and now I’m convinced Obi-Wan had to go through this ordeal before he met Vader in ANH. He had to regain his confidence. But, he had to learn that Luke didn’t need extensive training since childhood to use the force. He just needed to connect and be confident in what he was doing.

So … we’re led to believe Leia had the cushy life being a princess surrounded by wealth and all that wealth can provide. but …, Luke got to run free and have friends and explore much of his little isolated world.

Both were loved. In fact, that Luke is a bit whiney at 19 just shows how spoiled he was where as Leia was trained to always be responsible - not just for herself, but everyone on her planet as well as everyone in the galaxy.

honestly? As a child, I think I’d rather have Luke’s childhood.

It's not about the watching, it's about the dramatic tension - why have such scenes when you already know the outcome almost in its entirety? There is nothing wrong with prequels, but you have to be smart in how you play the tension and the drama, and placing the characters of Luke, Leia, Obi-Wan and Vader into frequent risk when you know there is none?

A story that could be a big old plate of fresh dim sum is relegated to a plate of prawn crackers, enjoyable, but ultimately hollow and lacking in any long time satisfaction.

@Diacanu mentions plot armour, which is a reasonable point, but that never precludes trauma and still allows for some risk - we know Luke isn't going to die in ESB, but at the first time of watching, unspoiled, who expected him to come away with one less hand? BoBW was set up ready to off Picard if Stewart didn't play ball in contract negotiations, and still gave a rich seam of trauma that echoed down future stories.

Inserting a new story in-between two others means you're boxed in, so IMO writers should use that rather than pretending they're not.

We got trauma and risk though. Obi-Wan got put through the fire mentally and physically in this one.

Big Finish Doctor Who eps with old Doctors would be pretty crap if folk just went "well, obviously the Doctor and his companion survive!" at the cliffhangers.
