Dammit, now I'm going to tear up a bit. Muad Dib and I were on two sides of the divide when it came to states rights and such, but he was an honest, intelligent, down-to-earth man who had a great sense of humor. We'd argue for a while, and then just laugh that shit off. I'm going to miss you, man. :(

Edit: Sorry, I accidentally posted his real name again.

I've been tearing up a bit all weekend. Never met him in person, but the exchanges we had here and at trekbbs - both public and private - well, we might as well have been sitting in the same bar drinking beer, shooting pool, having a bunch of laughs.

It's strange to put a face to a name, after all these years.

I know what some of you look like... but I had never seen a pic of MD before.

I found he looked EXACTLY like what you would have imagined. That's often not the case.

The newbs here will never know the intensity of some of the Muad Dib Confederacy theads. Not just his but the interest many of us took up to combat him in these threads. I know I did some research to go head to head against him. And how many here made sure they watched the Ken Burns films on the Civil War so they had info to go up against Maud Dib??? :zod:

I caught a few of them. Definitely some of the more interesting arguments that would flare up here.

Way too young. I'll miss him and wish the best for his family in their time of mourning.

I saw that, too, and my first thought was "Aw man, I'd love to hear what Muad would say on the subject," and then I remembered. :(

Bad news. But then, cancer is usually bad news. Lost my father and an older brother (who never got to be as old as I am now...) to cancer.

    Good-bye, Muad. I'll miss you. :(

I didn't want to say anything initially but 'so suddenly' I'm not sure was correct. He had final stage cancer in multiple locations of his body, IIRC including his brain. He was a tough son of a bitch to be able to interact with us at all. I remember when I was sick I couldn't do things like watch a 30 min tv show, because the pain broke my concentration so much.

When it had spread and was at stage four I pretty much knew his time was up. But I guess it was the fact that I was unaware he was already in hospital when he was still talking to us that made it still seem a bit sudden, especially with all the fighting talk.
