Because using Islam as an indicator for terrorism is only as effective as the likelihood of a Muslim being a terrorist, somewhere between .1% and .01%. It is irrelevant how large that group is in absolute numbers, given that the group of non-terrorist Muslims remains bigger by several orders of magnitude.

Put this another way: Thinking of terrorism whenever you hear "Islam" is only slightly less ludicrous than thinking of terrorism whenever you meet a male human being -- that would only set you off by another factor of only 2, after you're already off by factors between 1,000 and 10,000.

    Who is "they"?

You asked how many terrorists there were. I gave you a figured based on the number if Islamic extremists there's believed to be. The includes various extremists groups globally, often groups separate from each other, often with conflicting ideas. Hell, even now ISIS has lost 90% of foreign fighter recruitment as their fight becomes harder. ISIS relied a lot on foreign fighters. Other groups don't. You seem to be suggesting that all terrorists are a unified force. They are not, especially when you account for the percentage inspired but not involved in a extremist group.

I think the problem here is a gross over simplification that feed into the "one big them" narrative.

[/quote] No, I really don't. How many Chinese Uyghurs do you see fighting for ISIS? How many fighters from Uzbekistan? How many Khazaks? Which "Muslim population" are we talking about? You asked how many Muslims there were in the world so I assumed you mean the global population. I asked you for clarification. You've failed to give it.

Nobody has suggested that there isn't a significant problem with Islamic extremism. Hell, I routinely argue for a full ground war against ISIS. It's the "it represents all Muslims"/"the (fictional) monolithic singular entity of Islam is to blame" narrative that I and other don't buy into. I fight against the bigotry here because the actions of that terrorist minority still don't justify that bigotry....and that is part of the reason you won't see me jumping on the bandwagon. It's why you don't see me banging on with jingoistic rhetoric or coming out with "religion of peace" sarcasm on here. Believe me, I have nothing but contempt for these religiously brainwashing, evil people. I have many criticisms to make of Islamic communities and their approach to the problem. I despise the very concept of people commiting any kind of hateful, violent or oppressive acts in the name of fairytales. But I choose not to discuss those views in detail because not only is everything I say already subject to straw man nonsense, but if I am critical of, for instance, the British Islamic community, I think bigots like @Dinner only will see that as an endorsement of their bigootry.

Dayton is just upset these days that nobody listens to any of his stupid nonsense. That's why he's been mashing the neg reps with such tremendous butthurt lately.

What's Heat Street? I ran this through Google translate and there is nothing in the iriginal French page resembling this extract. This is a story running on, of all places, Infowars. So that should tell you what it is.

This is the scene after the massacre.....

    WANRING:GRAPHIC CONTENT

It does not appear to reflect what has been alleged. Among the words I searched for after translation were testicles, balls, father, mouth and disemboweled. Father was the only word that came up and no instances of it related to what this article is saying.

    I think you've been had.

Plus, if that were the case then Indonesia should have the highest concentration of terrorism in the world, given that it has the highest population of muslims in the world....

Yeah, but with 250 million muslims they should have hundreds of thousand of them...

In fact, statistically speaking they should have destroyed the world 4.7 times over by now....

Oh the quote is there in the original alright. The translation just cuts off at the important point.

In other words (and this is probably not perfect and if someone who knows French better will polish it up I'll be grateful, but I can guarantee the basic points are there),

    Utter rubbish.

I don't dispute that events like the Iraq invasions have fueled the anti-west sentiment. But only a fool places the blame entirely on us.

You're grossly misinformed if you think sitting quietly with our borders means no Islamists.
