I'm trying a Kona Big Wave, its pretty good. It has a light citrus aroma with a bit of hops and subtle grain tones. The flavor is a nice touch of hops, a slight bitter tone, followed by a very slight peppery hint and finishing with a citrus after taste.
I tried their Longboard Lager, it was OK, a bit to sweet for my taste. A bit expensive too, my six pack was 1o bucks.
I drank a 6 pack of Hoponius Union from Jack's Abby brewing (a local from Framingham, Massachusetts) They're special because they brew only Lagers. Hoponius Union is an IPL and that definitely sets it apart. I think they've only just started making 6 packs, so I was super happy to see one. http://antiherobrewing.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/hoponius-1.jpg (edited to change the picture to a link. It was too large)
Unsticky this thread, please, as well as the other beer thread. No reason for them to take precedence over other, long-established Wordforge threads. The "beer index" thread can't even accept replies.
Agreed. We don't even sticky the NCAAF, NFL, MLB, or Premiere League threads. This one can sink or swim on it's own like the rest.
I like Fat Tire. Before the beer laws changed and you had to go to Georgia to get anything interesting, I would occasionally pick some up on a beer run.
I had that the other day on draft at Reds in Rozzie. Previously I've bought the large bottle format, but didn't realize they were doing 12 ounce bottles now. Definitely a great beer.
I didn't realize they were stickied. I've released them, but I'll wait on unlocking the index until I hear from @John or @Larry about why it was locked in the first place.
I think they started this month stocking them. Also, Redds in Rozzie is a great place with a great beer menu.
I tried one of the new-to-me 5 today - a Cyprus beer called Keo. I found the first 3-4 gulps delish, but the rest mediocre. Bit of a bitter taste but not in a nice way, Like Brooklyn, in a sorta 'tastes like you are eating rust' way.
erm... guess you haven't then. "cold tea" is what you ask for at an Asian establishment after last call. They then bring you your beer in a tea pot. maybe it's a Toronto thing?
I remember the first time I went their menu was a little too fancy and didn't even have a burger on it, and that was disappointing since I'm a bit of a picky eater. I went back this summer after seeing that their menu included some staples on it and I have to say it was very good. Had a Maine Beer Co Zoe and a Pulled Pork sandwich.
I atttended the Augusta Bottoms Brew Fest yesterday. Over 30 brewers and 100+ beers for sampling. Here are some of the highlights: Garage Brewers Association: One Hot Blonde - a crisp blonde ale with a chili-pepper finish Started smooth, kicked your throat's ass on the back end. Couldn't drink a lot of it, as it was like eating chicken wings...the heat kept building with every swallow. Belgian Shandy - a light refreshing ale with a cleany, citrus finish Exit 6 Brewery: Vanilla Cream Ale - my favorite of the day. Smooth, easy to drink, with a surprising amount of vanilla flavor that lingered nicely on the palette. Crown Valley Brewers: Peachy Wheat Ale - nice drinkable ale with just a hint of peach flavor Kirkwood Station BrewHaus: Blackberry Wheat Ale - I love blackberries, and I enjoy Wheat ales, so this should be a natural for me, right? Not so much. Way too hoppy. Made a sour face when I tasted it. Augusta Brewery: Oktoberfest - nice smooth brew. I don't usually like darker beers, but this one was easy to drink and still flavorful. All in all, I probably tasted 20-25 brews. They give you a 4-5 oz. souvenier sampling glass with your ticket, but most samples only fill 1/3 to 1/2 of the glass. Got there around 1:30, stayed until 5:00 pm. Had a good time, will be back next year!
Nautica, I love beer festivals, so many beers to try. I usually hit the American Craft Brewing festival when it's in town. They had an outstanding Oktoberfest last weekend. Good grub, good beer.
That's not my doing. The Beer Index was made on the OLD board, when I would Review a new Beer in THIS thread on the old board, John would Index it, so you could just go the beer you wanted too. When I get some new beer, here is where I will review them, John will then copy them to the Index. I wish he could have moved the old thread over here, you would have seen how it worked.
There are several good Oktoberfest beers out there, Yuengling has a good one, Samuel Adams is Ok, Weihenstephaner has a good Festbier which is their Octoberfest.
I suppose I'll just wander the beer aisles. Actually, Gul would probably know what's sold/good around here for an Oktoberfest beer.
