It's actually insane that the voting can theoretically happen in perpetuity until a majority is reached. House business is at a complete standstill until a speaker is chosen.

These last six years have really shown some of the antiquated cracks in America's system of democracy.

The current crop of republicans don't care about governing so that's not a really big deal to them. They'd rather be Fox-famous than actually govern

While McCarthy is an unprincipled, craven coward, and not exactly a genius-level IQ, I assume he is not completely stupid, and therefore is aware that loyalty, where Trump is concerned, is a one-way street.

The last 4 GOP speakers all resigned before their expected time, three of them didn't run for election after that. This was a bullshit job 20 years ago. Now it's insanity.

Sounds like a Republican wet dream, shutting down half of a branch of government for no reason. Wouldn't put it past them for this to be a strategy, considering they've held the country hostage before with budget shutdowns.

Also fun, watching Gaetz, Gosar and company going over to the Dems and trying to get help from AOC, no doubt seeing if they can pry votes from the Squad. She's literally laughing in their faces.

Has there been any news reports as to whether McCarthy's move to the Speaker's Office was authorized by Congressional administrative staff and, if so, why?

Seems to me like there's been some shenanigans. Perhaps some Congressional staff, including the Architect, need to find new jobs.

The Architect of the Capitol (AOC, the official designation, LOL) was put in place by Trump in 2019. And that's one of the three member board that ensures the safety of the capitol. The other 2 resigned after Jan 6th.

The current guy, Brett Blanton, has already been called to task for multiple misuses of work resources (he gives capitol cars to his family) and has misrepresented himself as a police officer.
