My understanding is that without first electing a Speaker they can’t vote on rules (like, what committees will there be, how are they constituted, how is legislation introduced and moved, how is it amended, basically everything on how the body will function).

Meaning that basically everything will just be ad hoc, majority up or down. Chaos rules.

Ergo, concordantly, inexorably, apropos, vis-à-vis.

Imagine being elected to Congress and actually having to work and make merry with that sad lot. It precludes most decent, self-respecting people from ever wanting the job.

This, for that reason, and that given how little they can accomplish anyone with some money or ability to earn some could do so much more without the hinderance of the evil sacks of shit in the legislature, judicial, and executive getting in their way.
