You guys seem to think that because I say "you can't tell someone how to vote", I'm saying I won't vote or I'm voting third party.

Now, after 3 pages, instead of saying 'you're right, Jenee" everyone is backpedaling and saying "*I* didn't tell anyone how they should vote".

No, he fought busing because he thought it would be a hardship for the kids bused (bussed?) and it would be ineffective. I lived in Charlotte and went to public school there from 1972-1976. Busing wasn't a good thing. Perhaps someone from the other side could weigh in.

This isn't like going to the convenience store, where if you don't want Coke or Pepsi, you can grab a Faygo or a Mr. Pibb. There are exactly two things that stand any reasonable chance of happening on January 20 of next year: either Biden gets sworn in or Trump gets sworn in for his second term.

Anecdotally, I can vouch for the fact that busing in Brooklyn at the time was a nightmare for Black students. They often had an hour+ subway ride into all-white neighborhoods, not to mention the likelihood of being jumped by local thugs on their way home.

Your vote is mathematically equivalent to a vote for whoever’s in 1st and 2nd place if you vote for anyone except whoever’s polling in 1st or 2nd place in your state (or if you’re in Nebraska or Maine, district). That’s just the math resulting from the game theory of plurality single-winner elections with public polling. Since Trump is in first or second place where you live, and so is Biden, that means you’re voting for Trump if you don’t vote for Biden. You’re also voting for Biden if you don’t vote for Trump. The system is pernicious, but that’s no excuse for denying its existence when preventing outright fascism is on the line. The only reason to vote third party is if you truly believe Biden is equally as bad as Trump. And if you believe that... well, the most charitable interpretation of that possible is that you’re not paying any attention at all. The more probable possibilities are... less flattering.

ETA: Maine’s RCV applies to the presidential vote too, right? You can vote for whomever there, then, as long as you rank Biden above Trump.

Or if you live in a state/district that’s skewing so hard in polls one way or the other that the chance of your vote mattering is nil, and your local third party needs %age of the presidential vote for ballot access. But if you live anywhere where the polling is closer than like a 25 point spread, you should not take that risk. And if you do, you still can’t claim to be voting against Trump or Biden, only that your vote for Trump or Biden doesn’t matter.

There's your false equivalence again. Once more, what I complain about with Trump supporters includes that they are helping him kill Americans in the hundreds of thousands. No Biden campaigner in this thread has done the same, even remotely.
