    Grenade Machine Gun (GMG)

With a rate of fire of up to 340 rounds per minute, the Heckler & Koch GMG fires 40mm high explosive grenades up to 2,000 metres in either single shot or automatic modes. The ammunition is dual purpose, providing anti-armour and anti-personnel effects. Whilst its main use is in a tripod-mounted role from the ground, it can also be mounted on several in-service vehicles, including the Landrover Weapons Mount Installation Kit and Mastiff.

We definitely have a great allie with the British. They have a history of doing kick-ass things like this. Hitler must have been insane to even think about fucking with them back in WWII.

Well, the way I see it, for evey 5 soldiers or pilots of your's who takes out a convoy of coalition troops we restore the balance by shooting four times as many scumbags. Sounds fair to me.

You'd be astonished how many round here learn that the hard way. ;)

Point of information: he almost certainly didn't join the Army at 16, it's far more likely he went to Army college...

(We got in trouble a few years back with the UN because we were breaking the convention on boy soldiers by allowing 16 and 17 years olds to sign up. So now they get sent to 'Army College' - basic training, but with the guarantee that you won't get sent anywhere nasty till you turn 18. It's how nephew spent most of the year he was 17 in Poland and Germany. ;) )

Christ Almighty, he just got a Military Cross? What would he have had to do to get the Victoria Cross, win the war on his own?

I mean, shit, when you engage triple digit number of soldiers on your own, you should be a shoe in for the biggest medal your nation has.

This has come up before, I think - the VC can only be awarded for action during wartime, and since we're not actually at war in Afghanistan OR Iraq (we "won", remember?) our guys can't receive it.

BTW Americans use Land Rovers sometimes too - not all our vehicles in the sandbox are tactical military vehicles. I know when I was there I'd have loved the option of air conditioning, beverage holders and music. I figure when your time is up (and you get attacked) your time is up, and type of vehicle is only a small factor, since we didn't have armored vehicles anyway in my unit.

I wonder what the reaction would be if this guy was an Afghani and not one of the NATO fighters. Would the bravey and skill be just the same if he was fighting against the 'good guys' as it is when someone is fighting 'the bad guys'?

I'm sure it would, from their side. Bravery and skill is bravery and skill -
I try to see both sides of every story.

Having said that, I would still kill every last one, because that's my job, just as their job is to kill every last one of us.

Remember in "Patton" when the German pilot is stafing the Americans under heavy fire? Patton said the German pilot should be awarded a medal for bravery.
