Up to about level 25 as my barbarian who works for the Khans.

I was planning on going through and doing the Legion quests, but I just can't fucking do it. Guess I've gone all soft, but I don't want to be that evil.

Unfortunately, I've already killed House and destroyed the robot army for Caesar (I just couldn't see my barbarian wanting a bunch of robots around).

On the plus side I've completed a mod which had me partner in getting Bison Steve's Casino back up and running so I've got a great base of operations and a steady source of cash. My guy has been living out of the Isolated Tent mod to this point as befitting his background.

So I guess I'm going to have to help the NCR at this point. You can't go independent without the 'bots, and I can't bring myself to enslave half of Nevada.

The problem is they don't have a sympathetic group to this guy's POV - it's all some sort of law and order out the yin-yang, just different flavors.

    Still, it's a fun ride.

Man, there are just so many ways to run with this I wonder if I'll ever get them all done.

I did Ceasar's bidding a while back just to get the acheavements but it was bare bones. I too have a hard time being such an animal.

I finished up the hardcore run but skipped DM in the process. I've been through that DLC twice now and will likely wait a while before I go back.

I keep finding other side quests which is cool. I ran across one in North Vegas I did this last week and it paid off at the loading bench with a hand load recipe for 44s. Cool.

One thing I noticed was when you get the chance to buy a scope for the trail gun, do it. I finally managed to get a scope for mine. I'd seen it early on at Gun Runners but hesitated which was a mistake since in that runthrough it never reappeared anywhere. This time I snagged it and am glad I did.

At the moment, I have gone as far as I can short of going in to House and saying let's do this. I can still go Yes Man but what I did was complete my hardcore run with House, then went back to a previous save and continued hammering anything that moves.
I also took Animal Friend this time.

    Funny thing happened.
Usually it seems a rule of thumb that if you follow someone, be it a trader or someone transfering from one post to another for example in this game, likely there will be a confrontation along the way where they may not make it.
So I'm doing the hardcore run, and decided to slip in and release Raul, then just send him to his shack for the time being. I followed him, scanning ahead and killing anything that would do him harm when we were crossing just north of the 188 where there are a small cluster of Bighorners just munching away. Now if you don't get too close to them they will ignore you but Raul did not deviate from his path which took him smack dab through the middle of the herd. Needless to say even with my AF perk since he wasn't a companion when he got right in the middle of them they attacked him and that was where he died.
Of course I had a save right before he got there but it forced me to kill them all off to get him through. On the plus side I got 23 Bighorner steaks, after a little campfire action that is.

I have yet to do a melee hand to hand type guy. The idea of punching a Deathclaw to death before he wacks me is a scary concept but apparently properly set up that is a possability. I may start that run next week while I wait for the new DLC.

    'bout it, just waiting patiently.

Yeah, this run my guy specializes in guns and melee this time. He's decent at unarmed too, and with the various special fighting moves you can learn from the Rangers, Scribes and Legion that can be pretty damn effective, especially with a power fist.

Melee is brutal, I started with a strength of 8 and have gotten it up to 10 by level 10. The knocback perk is amazing, because with a decent speed weapon you can get several shots in while the victim is picking himself up. It's almost always a kill.

You take more damage, but when you combine it with a good survival score it's worth it, as survival gets lots of health back (and in hardcore it's just as good as stims really) and often gives you bonuses to your strength.

The hard thing is all the money you have to spend repairing your armor. LOL. But that balances out by not spending as much in ammo.

I've also been running the Excaliber mod this time, and that adds about a hundred new guns and lots of different ammo types to the game. The 2nd part of that mod also adds all the old guns, including the specials from the first several games. It was a bit harder at low levels because the bad guys get better weapons too, but it adds a lot of flavor to the game. Level 5 running around with the Powder Gang facing off against the NCR was just brutal, because the NCR soldiers were damn tough at that level with the new weapons! :)

Favorite gun with the CalibR mod? The M4/M203. If you get ahold of Boone, hook him up with the AR-10 scoped and silenced. Also, fun fact about Boone which I didn't encounter until the last time I took him duck huntin' -- If you go into his inventory and swipe his beret from him, he pouts about it. "I'd really like my beret back now, please."

Found a way out of the confines of the standard map area.
Remember, this is a 360 here.
Man, there's so much room outside the Pip-boy map and it's big. The water out there is irradiated too for some reason.

Also found a way to ping Legate's camp. Legate isn't there of course but I did manage to pick off the guards and troops before going in an looting everything that wasn't stealing. Oddly enough the footlockers were Ok. Hammers were about the only theft items there.
You can't get out the gate from the inside though. Fortunately I took the perk allowing fast travel overencumbered.

Honest Hearts takes you on an expedition to the unspoiled wilderness of Utah's Zion National Park. Things go horribly wrong when your caravan is ambushed by a tribal raiding band. As you try to find a way back to the Mojave you become embroiled in a war between tribes and a conflict between a New Canaanite missionary and the mysterious Burned Man. The decisions you make will determine the fate of Zion.

In Old World Blues, releasing in June, you will discover how some of the Mojave's mutated monsters came to be when you unwittingly become a lab rat in a science experiment gone awry. You'll need to scour the Pre-War research centres of the Big Empty in search of technology to turn the tables on your kidnappers or join forces with them against an even greater threat.

Lonesome Road, available in July, brings the courier's story full circle when you are contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of New Vegas. In his transmission, Ulysses promises the answer as to why, but only if you take one last job -a job that leads you into the depths of the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms. The road to the Divide is a long and treacherous one, and of the few to ever walk the road, none have ever returned."

In the interum I've been tinkering with Tactics a bit and have actually made headway. Bit of a bitch on a laptop but the game itself is tolerable.

I've been spoiled by FPS. :(

    Finished Honest Hearts.

Gotta agree, it's too short. It reminded me most of the Pitt DLC from FO3 in design, in that it was a new location with a relatively short plot arc.

The story arc itself was pretty good IMO, delving with the religious roots of the area, the tribals, and the story of the Burning Man, all wrapped up in a morality tale about innocence and violence. Hence the name, Honest Hearts (if I understand correctly a Bible reference, also fitting). There should have been a cinematic with the Burned Man and Caesar as Joshua related the story of their early days. As it was there was some interesting psychological peeks into that, but not much more.

As an adventure goes, I thought it was solid, and the White Legs were surprising adversaries. I went in at Level 24 and there was enough there for me to come out at level 28. At that range the White Legs can be a real challenge, and had me scrambling to get into cover while chewing some Yao Gaua meat and shooting some stims and combat enhancers.

The NPC companions initially I didn't care for, but by the end I felt protective and friendly with. They did a good job of the 'innocence' of the tribals, though the first kid, Chalks, could get annoying with his wide eyed wonder.

The subplot with the survival caches and the Father of the Caves was very well written.

Zion Park was a very interesting location for the game, and held interest by itself. If you favor survival skills it's a bounty, with prodigious amounts of components for crafting and numerous new crafting recipes for some excellent new foods and aids. Combine that with the increase in level and the amount of new weapons (auto 45s, yum) makes for a good upgrade to the game even if you aren't planning on playing through the entire mission.

Overall, I give it a solid B. Would have been higher, as most of the individual components are well done, but it's too short. Of course, it does allow you to return, so that might bring it up to B+ (especially as there's no doubt modders taking advantage of the new locations to add new quest items as we speak).

Oh, and as far as compatibility issues with mods - none to speak of with the ones I ran. I needed an upgrade to my Script Extender for Project Vegas and a upgrade for Nevada Skies, and she was ready to go.

In the next two months we should have two more DLCs, the Big Empty and then the culmination of the battle between the two Couriers. There was a big hint on this one on what the role of the couriers was leading up to all of this.

Big hint indeed. Apparently the other courier has sided with Legion according to JG. Wonder how that'll play out if you're on the same side.

I finished it as well, but I went back and am in the process of redoing it. I need to see what all of the endgame stories are and particularly want to see if Follows-Chaulk will be around if I tell him to stay.

I also am looking to see if there is any possability of any traders left there.

I have one game that is the long running one atm and will likely stick with it throughout but I do intend to have a complete redo once the DLCs have all been released.

Searchlight Airport, left of the building, hopped over the fence from the top of one of the tanks. The one closest to the building seemed to be the only one that you could get on top of via the tank saddle.
Ed-E couldn't follow but he did show up at the fence when I made my way around Nellis.

This was all pre patch so I'll have to check it again after I get back from Zion.
