Okay, my mistake I thought you were saying Hillary voters were mainly motivated by her gender.

An excellent point, Mikey. But you've got to remember that Obama has only been Governor of Illinois for what, a little over 3 years now, so he doesn't have much more executive experience.

Actually, he's taken that Roman short sword and traded it in for a Scottish Claymore.

I think some are, but most aren't.

He's grabbing for the one's that are, and it's utterly transparent.

I disagree. The Republicans have experience at the top of their ticket. They don't have to roll out someone to bolster it. Her advantages are more ideological than practical. But even on the practical side she would be more qualified than Obama.

By selecting someone to be his VP who has even less experience than Barack Obama?

Ok. You tell yourself whatever you have to tell yourself.

I thought that Hillary's speech went a long way towards convincing Hillary's actual supporters (not people who just voted for her because they wanted a woman in the White House) to support Obama. In effect, McCain is trying to exploit a hole that nobody wants to enter (Giggidy!!!!).

She's also got two terms as an Alaskan mayor.

    Again, practical executive experience.

With a 72 year old survivor of multiple cancers at the top of the ticket, how can the choice not be practical?

Nonsense. If anything, he's going for the ideological vote more than the feminist vote. The typical feminist is going to treat her just as they would Condi Rice or any other conservative woman.

By all standard measures, Palin has MORE experience related to the job than Obama does.

Life expectancy in this country is pretty high, don't you know? Life expectancy when you're already in your 70's and have excellent health care is even higher. It's not a concern...

So, Mike, please tell us HOW AND WHY Barak Obama is more experienced in running a government than Sarah Palin.

Goes both ways, pal. If all that makes you feel better about your candidate being outclassed and outsmarted then you go right ahead.

IMO, that one's already history. A war vet who goes to Congress, supports a war, and has a kid in the military? That alone makes him more qualified to discuss these issues than Obama.

So my analysis? First impulse is: Cool! She's wholesome, hot, has executive experience, and political views that match mine--in more or less that order.

Her age and relative lack of experience will make it more challenging for McCain to directly attack Obama's age and relative lack of experience, but not impossible. She's coming into the bottom of the ticket, so McCain can position himself as the Yoda-like mentor. And her age means that she'll be a fairly blank slate, as far as mudslinging. Finally, Obama picked Biden, who we can probably expect will play the role of Goon, being the Enforcer who slings mud and allows Obama to take the High Road. This choice, to a large degree, cuts off Biden's balls, because now he'll be in the position of having to beat up on a pretty woman in the debates.

I just realized--this choice also cuts off Obama's balls to a degree. His whole message has been "Hope & Change", and he's picked an old white male career Washington insider as his running mate. McCain, on the other hand, has picked a fresh-faced up-and-comer with not ties to Washington--and a woman at that.

Which brings up another reason this was a shrewd move--it gives Obama a chance to do what he does so well--naively shoot himself in the foot. I guess he's already released a message that essentially said "I can't believe McCain has picked a woman whose only experience has been to be the mayor of a hick Alaska town." :jayzus:

Bad play, Barack. First of all, way to nicely gloss over that the woman is an elected state governor--giving her more executive experience than anyone else in the entire campaign. Second, you took a bath when the "hicks cling to guns and Bibles" comment came out.

Oh, and the fact that she's a woman also nicely undercuts Obama if he tries to play the Race Card and say "Whitey is keeping me Down." Because now the reply will be "Kinda like how you're keeping women Down?" :marathon:

If you actually look at Obama's record (and you haven't. don't lie), and see what type of bills he has authored and how he has gotten them passed, you'll find that Obama is clearly just as qualified for the Presidency as either Hillary Clinton or McCain. For example, in his first year in the Senate, Obama authored more legislation than Hillary had done since she came to the Senate.

It is a verifiable fact that McCain as a Senator has authored some of the fewest number of bills. Yet by reaching across the aisle one or two times (to co-sponsor, not actually author) a bill, he becomes a "maverick". And, how in the world does being a POW give you an understanding of the Constitution, yet attending Harvard does not?

With McCain's age and health (or lack thereof), the possibility of her stepping into the presidency, even for a brief time, has to be considered.

Except, I guess, if you're John McCain.
