Right, none of that at all in the Dems selection. It's not like every new site ran a 'historic choice' headline when Obama got the nod.

Thing is though you only see the vocal leftist women on TV. You don't see your average woman voter.

Most women are not that far left. There are millions of women who getting to know this lady would easily slide from left to right when it comes to voting. Assuming of course she can convince them to like her.

I expect both sides to pander to just about every mindset in order to get votes, so I'm not surprised about the "historic choice" thing. I'm just shocked that people will actually vote for him just because it's a historic choice.

She's against Gay Marriage, but had use her first veto to block legislation in order to ensure that Alaskan state workers got domestic partnership benefits. She's in the 'they can be together, but don't call it marriage' camp.

Also, she's got a baby with Down Syndrome, so I have to believe she's thought a LOT about abortion.

Exactly. The biggest purely gender-based benefit from the choice will manifest in polls right at the outset.

Well, there is an issue with a state trooper that hasn't been resolved yet. However, everything so far seems on the up and up.

Going over her record, she seems harmless enough. I could easily stomach her as she seems willing to fit her views to the Constitution (at least the Alaska one) and not the other way around. Plus she's a toker.

Hmmm, I wonder how many Hillary supporters will vote McCain now, in hopes that McCain dies, and they get what they want a woman in office. Regardless of how much they disagree with her policies.
It's a smart move for McCain. Although I don't think she's going to help as much as people think right now. All that beauty queening, and fishing aren't exactly what Hillary supporters were looking for.
I now predict another nail biting, 50/50 election. I'm going out to stock up on Tums.

Well, I can certainly understand it being a factor, especially to people that have haven't been represented in the highest office in the land to this point. But considering almost all Blacks are polling as voting for Obama, I have a hard time stomaching the fact that women who are in the same boat (hell, they got the vote after racial issues were determined!) are somehow disingenuous if they would like to see a woman in office.

Either way, it gets the matter out of the way - no one will ever again have to deal with the 'first' issue.

Personally I consider it a factor as a white male. It's not a major factor to me, but all other things being equal I'd like to see a minority get the chance - we are past due.

Of course, all other things are rarely equal, and I won't be voting for Obama because I seriously disagree with many of his policies and I don't care at all for his past political associations.

You got to love this on CNN one of the talking heads actually said that she can't be a good VP because she's a mother...and they say that Republicans are sexist.

We'll see. The indignance at the proposition of Kathleen Sebelius being Obama's VP pick suggests that for many, it was less about women in general and more about Hillary in particular. Hillary was the one who actually did the work, Kathleen would have just been reaping the benefit. It may be the same with Sarah, plus the added effect of Palin being much different on the issues than Hillary or Obama.

If I had to guess, I'd predict that the polls will spike for McCain and then drift down as novelty wanes and issues rise.

This may serve to put a bit of a muzzle on Biden though in the debate.

What a naked grab for the Hillary vote.

I hope her supporters aren't stupid enough to fall for it.

Plus she has spent two years in an executive position and apparently has a good track record in that time. However she has the baggage of the investigation into the state public safety agency firings. But I'm willing to be that was already vetted and found to be a non issue.

Best part is that she is a MILF and is going in the spank bank.

Two years as governor of Alaska makes someone qualified to run the country, now?

Everything I've seen on the firings is making it look like another example of her not putting up with less-than-ethical behavior in gov't.

What's to address? John McCain is a sexist. Always has been. Choosing a woman as his VP pick changes nothing about the man. It just shows that he has shrewd people around him.

    No, it doesn't.

Just as the few years of experience Obama has does not make him qualified to run the country.

Why are you critical of someone with insufficient experience being Vice President, but enthusiastically supporting someone with insufficient experience being President? :wtf:

Because a governor has FAR more administrative responsibility and accountability, not to mention a broader range of obligations. She was in CHARGE of a government. Obama runs a political MACHINE.

This choice does make an interesting contrast. The Dems have the hope and change, no experience candidate at the top of their ticket and chose an insider as their number two. The Reps have a guy with lots of Washington experience but who's still considered an outsider at the top and a relative newcomer as number two.

If you're going to do this, that'd be the way I'd prefer it.

And, actually, her two years as governor (an executive position) trumps Obama's 4 years as junior senator and no administrative experience.

I do think Obama's inexperience is a weakness, and I always felt like if it were a perfect world, he'd wait until 2012 to run. But it's not a perfect world.

To me, the choice is between someone with less experience but an inquisitive mind and willingness to learn on the job, or someone who is the polar opposite of virtually everything I believe.

So in my mind, it's not a hard choice.

As for Palin, I think she's an interesting choice, but not a good one. McCain just took his sharpest sword, which is Obama's inexperience, and broke it in half.
