Popped this one in after months over the weekend... Since I reached Level 30 and the main story line ended months ago, I really didn't see the need to. But after just randomly wandering the wasteland, I stumbled upon The National Guard Depot and decided to look around. upon entering, I found that this dilapidated building was heavily guarded by several robots.... which led me to believe that there has to be something of value tucked inside. The more I searched, the more intrigued I became.

Came across a locked door emitting a few rads that couldn't be opened... I wondered around some more and came across a switch a few floors higher in the corner of the building... Luckily, there were holes in the floors that I could jump through that led back to the locked door that was now open and revealed a few more guard bots for me to kill. Easy money...

After going deeper and deeper into this room with trap doors and more metal locked doors, I came acroos a room with a shitload of weapons inside. Assault rifles, frag grenades, mines, etc... and off in the corner of that room, another locked door that had a terminal off to the side labeled "Bunker Acess Terminal." A few tries at the secret password revealed that I did not have the password to get inside.

    Curiouser and curiouser.

According to the interwebs, I need to collect all 5 of the Keller Family Holotapes to get access to the bunker. After reviewing my inventory, I had 2 of the 5 tapes already. This time, listenig to them made a lot more sense.

The Keller family, from what I can make of it lived during the time when the chinese dropped atomic bombs all over the wasteland. The oldest son, Andrew was a national guard member who tried to get his other 5 family members into one of the various vaults and failed... So he gave each of his family members one number to a 5 digit access code so they can hide in the National Guard Bunker so they would survive... They had to all meet up at the bunker if they were to survive. It doesn't look like they did if I'm finding holotapes out in the wasteland. The first message mentions a power station near the town of Arefu... So when I get home tonight, I'm off there to look around to see if I can find a power station there...

It's amazing how this game keeps giving after hundreds of hours of play. I learned something about how game designers should make these work with setting goals and hopefully giving the player a worthwhile payoff. Very good work!!

IIRC, uncle Leo bit the dust outside Evergreen Mills. I might have died shortly after and had to restart before he died, but I don't have much hope for him.

This last round he's across from the Anchorage Memorial on the side that has the trucks making an enclosure, where the captive and a SM is. (A Keller tape is in there as well. ;) )
If I flash to the AM have to be sure to immediately go in that directon and take out the Centar that will be spitting at him. He moved a bit from his orginal locaton upriver a bit but ultimately stopped there. He is at one bar, two in VATS.

The other place I've found him is out by Casey's garage, (vault 12) where I ran across him escaping with Dad. He had no one to attack him here and was full bars throughout.

I intended to use this thread as a writing tool as well, might as well do that. I initially wrote this a while back but failed to post it and now am gong to rewrite it from memory along with some other adventures.

About 12-14 hours into my first serious playthrough of this game, prompted by the wastelands of Rage.

Wow. More later. (I played Fallouts 1 and 2 but this is totally different...)

The first two, though an important part of the Fallout story are in my opinion boring to some degree but certainly a challenge. I've played them a bit but have yet to finish either one, or anything prior to 3 for that matter.

I started with 3 and loved it to a point of addiction. There's so much to do and so many ways to go it's mindboggling. I can safely estimate well over a thousand hours in there looking for things in double digit runthroughs.
Each DLC immediately brought another run since I was following along. Now you can get them all in one shot but that won't take anything away except Broken Steel extended the game beyond the original ending, you'll have that right off the bat with all of them at initiation.

Glad you've found it so interesting. It's a great game and full of surprises at every turn.

I still find crap I haven't found before when I play it.

    Enjoy! :D

Wait'll you take a trip west out to New Vegas. With all of the DLCs out and a couple of new packs they just released I haven't been back to F3 for a while.

P.S. : As soon as I get a chance I'm going to check out Rage.

I just asked my daughter about it and her response was, "It's like if Borderlands and Fallout 3 has a Jesus baby."

I'm going to have to do something about that. :bailey:

Yeah, the open ended gameplay element here is definitely interesting. My deal was that I bought the game at the same time as DragonAge Origins, and after playing to about level 6 in Fallout I got hooked for two straight years on DAO.

Now I'm up to Level 9 (after a fresh start) in Fallout and really enjoying it. I have all the interfaces down now and a good mix of weapons, and discovering Rivet City was integral to keeping my ammo stocks high. I'm loosely following the campaign goals but doing a lot of wandering and sidequests.

I always said for a long time I wanted something like Gamma World on the computer- The Fallout series is this in spades. Good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Yeah, it's one of my favorite series ever. Personally I liked FO:NV better, as it's more complicated and ties into the original series, which I played through as a kid.

NV has a few better features, especially the factions - you have to manage your relationships with several major and minor groups that can REALLY change your gameplay.

Then you can go back and mod it on the PC and change it again. LOL.

The DLC's are pretty fun for both, and add a ton of content.

    Have fun!
