The way Skin hears it, New Vegas is the patch for Fallout 3 that introduces a whole new set of bugs. The bugs are probably part and parcel of the game engine itself, from everything Skin's seen and read.
I read about some of the bugs and have experienced a few of them but really if it doesn't take away from the game, like freeze ups and the like, I just tend to overlook them or reboot if I need to. My 360 is on it's last leg though. I've been having fits trying to get it to get the initial reading on a disc and since I've already been into it once to clean it as best I could I'll be looking to replace it next year. I have to sit and open and close it over and over and over and over for sometimes ten or fifteen minutes befor it hits just right and finally picks it up and runs. I got so aggrivated with it the other day I gave it a "slight" boot with the foot to the bottom and I'll be damned if it didn't pick it up and run. I've done it twice again and it worked, but timing is critical, close, and just as it completely closes, tap , and we're off to the wasteland. If I leave the disc in it it keeps it in memory and boots right up though. Kid isn't too pleased about that though since I am more reluctant to take it out these days.
Does copying the disc to the hard drive help by chance? I know it makes it easier for the system to load the disc and is easier on the disc drive. You still need the disc for the initial loading, but depending on the part it screws up at it may still do nothing, but if nothing else it could reduce the number of attempts to get it to boot.
My Reach disc gave this option and it did seem to help but as far as I know it hasn't been offered as an option on this disc yet.
It's not really an option on the game, it's an option on the console menu. Go on the dashboard to the game that's in the drive and select whatever options it requires. I'd tell you step by step but I'd have to fire up my console to do that, do it, and relay step by step something that's not hard to figure out on your own anyway, once you know how to do it.
Sure, I'll look into it, I was just saying that with Reach, it actually brought the option to my attention whereas I haven't checked with this one. It may be possable but I have to get the disc back from my kid before I can check.
Yeah, it's not an option everyone thinks of. It also takes up a TON of drive space, so I usually only do it with one or two games that I play a bunch, and delete them once I stop playing it.
Dead Money, the first DLC for New Vegas, is due December 21st and with 1000 points sitting there colllecting dust in my account rest assured there may be bloodshed on Christmas Day when I want to fire it up. Of course I would be the one bleeding from a frying pan mishap. I figured it would have DLCs so I opted to not piss my points away on that kewl Av crap. Cap raises to 35 and apparently it is a cooperative effort with you and three AIs. This should be interesting. Started in with another run, so far a simple compliment of Legion efficency has garnered me a good status with them. I'm going to try to get to Ceaser this round in a negotiation scenerio instead of a headlong battle to kill him. That will come later.
Played through yesterday, going the Yes Man route. Lot's of fun, I considered it a major improvement over FO3, especially for the companions, tons of side quests, and adapatable story that gave you considerable freedom in how you completed the game. Of course, I loved the first two, so the nostalgia factor was considerable for me as well, especially running into so many references to the old game. Wish it had Harold though. I give it an A+, but then I didn't have hardly any bugs or glitches to speak of, and only froze up twice.
I played BGA 1 and 2 back in the day. Never been much of a PC gamer so I haven't tried the NWN games. The real question here though is how this came from the posts above it?
I haven't played since Thanksgiving when I picked up the 360 for company and had managed to pick up Ed-E and Boone prior to going to Helios. I saved at the control panel and tried to fire Archamedes and it locked up. I was going to se if Boone copped an attitude like Veronica did when I blasted the BOS bunker. The first runthrough I went right up to Victor in Novac and of course the race was on to The Strip so this time I haven't spoken with him there yet and am looking for a way to get to Ceasar for a pow-wow. Don't tell me how either. Anyway the 360 was having zero luck IDing the disc after that freeze and reboot and it's back to the open/close dance so I put it away for the moment. As long as it's IDed it'll pick it up and run it but until then it's the Disc Drive Tango. I may set it up tonight and give it another try.
My PS3 downloaded a patch for Fallout: New Vegas last night. Hopefully it will fix the constant freezing of this game when played for long periods or time.
Lockups are part and parcel with this series it seems but you seem to be having more than the norm. Sorry to hear your discontent. Perhaps your hard drive is loaded down? I just learned to save-save-save so when it did I wouldn't have to go back too far. Most times I'll just stop and kill an hour for the save when en route somewhere. It adds to the in game time but this game only allows 100 hard saves.
For those of you that are inclined, IGN.com has put up a "Nearly Impossible Fallout Screenshot Quiz." I scored 8 out of 10. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1139743p1.html
Very large update released, lots of things have been improved and I was actually able to find my in game companions, which is really nice when you tell them to wait somewhere and forget where that is.
I did that last night, I stepped out of Vault 3 and realized I left them at the flooded area down in the lower levels. I don't like them to follow me underwater because they get in the way and drown me. One thing that's nice is the rebreather you can get in this game but I haven't gotten it on this run yet. It's imparative for a couple of the underwater adventures.
19/20 the desk one got me, and this new patch seems only to label the followers on the local/world maps and ED-E (unupgraded) now fires a weapon with projectiles similar to the alien blaster
