Delaware vs. Appalachian State for the FCS Title Game next week. No polls. No computers. No Bastard Championship Series idiocy. No good-ol-boy voting among the coaches. Just two teams who EARNED their way to the title game by actually beating other teams...just the way it should be. :techman:

A .500 team does NOT deserve a bowl bid, no matter how much I like Maryland.

A playoff system is as useless as a bowl system when you've got 100+ teams playing 11-13 games apiece.

The only solution is to extend the regular season. 13 games? Even the NFL plays more games than that, and they have less than a third of the number of teams that are in Division I of college football. But even wedging another 3-4 games into the college season would be a drop in the bucket, really. So either extend the season over multiple semesters or contribute to a fund to physically lengthen the period of Earth's revolution around the Sun. (Yeah, like either of those will happen . . . ;)) Until then, the question of who's #1 (or #2 . . . or #3 . . .) in Division I in any given season can never be considered properly settled--only guessed at.

(And yes, I'd say that even if Mizzou went to the championship game and won.)

The Big XII owns the ACC. Texas Tech and KU both upset their opponents. :techman:

So WTF will happen w/ final rankings? Oklahoma get their collective asses whooped, so they'll drop. But I figure they can't drop far, since MU destroyed Arkansas and will move up a little. But you'd wanna keep OU ahead of MU since they beat'em twice. And KU figures to be right behind MU as well, with their win. I'll be doubly pissed if KU ends up getting ranked above Mizzou.

How high does WV climb from 11th? How far does VaTech fall? How high does USC climb? Just seems like it's getting awful crowded up there. Can't forget about Georgia's dominance of Hawaii.

Best I can figure it'd be like this...

    If OSU wins:
    1) Ohio State
    2) Georgia
    3) LSU
    4) USC
    5) West Virginia
    6) Oklahoma
    7) Mizzou
    8) Kansas
    9) Va Tech

    If LSU wins:
    1) LSU
    2) Ohio State
    3) Georgia
    4) USC
    5) West Virginia
    6) Oklahoma
    7) Mizzou
    8) Kansas
    9) Va Tech

Now, these rankings are consistent in that teams from 5-9 would each have beaten teams ranked below them. But it just doesn't seem right that Mizzou and Kansas simply stay in place with no bump despite excellent bowl game performances.

Only one gripe, I don't think Oklahoma gets that high with 3 loses. Yes, they won the Big 12, but they got trounced by West Virginia coming off the Pitt loss, without it's head coach or best RB. I think Missou and Kansas will both end up higher.

^^^ Don't see KU getting higher than Mizzou, and don't see Mizzou higher than OU with two losses to them. But then again, I'm thinking logically, which probably doesn't apply here.

Ok, can we stop pretending that the Big 10 deserves more than one BCS bid now? The SEC was the ONLY good conference this year. Wells is a great back though. To bad OSU is still slow and lethargic against SEC competition.

That game was pathetic. OSU is just as bad as they were last year. I wish the other conferences would come together and tell the Big 10 that no conference championship means no BCS bowls. Period. I don't know who the best team was this year, but I don't believe it was LSU.

Nah, OSU was clearly the best team in the Big 10 this year. They just weren't up to facing LSU - or probably Georgia or USC either.

I'm not seeing the point of a championship game in a 10 team league. They just need to round robin the schedule like the PAC-10 does. The Big-10 doesn't do that, but the PAC-10 faces every other PAC-10 team during the year.

    Final AP Polls out:
    1. LSU (60) 12-2 1,620
    2. Georgia (3) 11-2 1,515
    3. USC (1) 11-2 1,500
    4. Missouri 12-2 1,347
    5. Ohio State 11-2 1,346
    6. West Virginia 11-2 1,342
    7. Kansas (1) 12-1 1,303
    8. Oklahoma 11-3 1,139
    9. Virginia Tech 11-3 1,096
    10. Texas 10-3 962
    10. Boston College 11-3 962
    12. Tennessee 10-4 904
    13. Florida 9-4 685
    14. Brigham Young 11-2 654
    15. Auburn 9-4 648
    16. Arizona State 10-3 587
    17. Cincinnati 10-3 566
    18. Michigan 9-4 508
    19. Hawaii 12-1 460
    20. Illinois 9-4 443
    21. Clemson 9-4 353
    22. Texas Tech 9-4 308
    23. Oregon 9-4 253
    24. Wisconsin 9-4 202
    25. Oregon State 9-4 110

Can't say I'd argue with any of that. Personally I think if there was a playoff USC would take it, but I'm a homer. :)

Strange, strange season this year. But a lot of fun!

Is it just me, or did Ohio state just lose their 8th or 9th straight bowl game in a row, when up against SEC teams?

Well, as much as I like Mizzou, I can't say I'd bet on them to beat Ohio State nor West Virginia. And I'm guessing OU is pissed they're ranked below both us and Kansas. But I suppose losing a bowl game hurts you more than in the regular season.

According to this, it's seven in a row. (and this was dated 12/18 so it doesn't count LSU)

OU proved they are better than Mizzou for sure. I think KU just slipped up in that game, if they played again I think the Manginos would roll right over Mizzou.
